We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelvin McKnight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelvin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process and goal were to become an affordable resource to smaller law firms. My legal background as a paralegal is my value add to understanding the exact type of candidates our clients are seeking. We specialize in the placement of legal professionals – essentially, anyone who works in a law firm or the legal department of a corporation.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Para Paralegal, Inc. is a legal recruiting firm that specializes in the placement of legal professionals. We represent paralegals, attorneys, legal assistants, legal secretaries, and essentially anyone who works in law firm or the legal department of a corporation. Our philosophy is to always be transparent with our candidates and clients. We have a 7-Step Process that drives our successful business model. Step 1 – Identify Clients Goals, Step 2 – Appy Our Recruiting Process, Step 3 – Interview Qualified Candidates, Step 4 – Perform Candidate Reference Checks, Step 5 – Present Qualified Candidates to Clients, Step 6 – Manage Client Interviews with Qualified Candidates, and Step 7 – Handle Offers and Transitions. Our services are no cost to legal professionals. Our clients are law firms and corporations with legal departments.

We are unique because we’re a recruiting firm of legal professionals representing legal professionals. We speak legal and understand exactly what our clients are seeking in a candidate. Recruiting is not easy. However, our best practice of always being transparent with our candidates and clients sets up apart from our competitors. We may not always tell our candidates and clients what they want hear, but we will always be honest.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a restaurant connoisseur. I truly enjoy trying new restaurants. However, my favorite is fajitas at several Mexican restaurants throughout the Houston and Katy area. As far as an itinerary, we would have homemade style breakfast at Frank’s Grill, head downtown to the museum or attraction, lunch at Papasitos Cantina, Houston Zoo and/or Galleria, then cap it off with a nice dinner at Perry’s or one of Houston’s fine steakhouse restaurants.

Also, I would check the schedule of Houston’s professional sports team and get tickets to a game. If it’s the weekend, we would check out a local car show or meet. I own a classic truck and car. I truly enjoy driving them on the weekends – it’s Therapy for me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give special recognition and thanks to my parents. Charles and Betty McKnight instilled a great work ethic in me along with great morals & values. My dad was an army veteran and business owner. He taught me the importance of owning a business and how to run it. He passed in 2022 and I miss him each day. My mom taught me the important of patience and being kind to others. One of her favorite quotes was, “do the best you can with what you have and do not allow others to dictate how you feel.” My dad’s favorite quotes was, “smart people learn from their mistakes but wise people learn from the mistakes of others so be smart and wise.”

I would like to the University of Houston Entrepreneur Program for helping me fine tune my entrepreneur skills. I am a graduate of the second class in school’s history. There is a selection process where only 30 students are accepted to the program each year.
