We had the good fortune of connecting with Kemberli Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kemberli, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In the beginning starting a business was never the idea. Cleaning was a way to recover financially from debt due to a divorce. There were many financial struggles I encountered during that time and getting another 9-5 job would have taken me away from the things that mattered the most to me; MINISTRY! As I began to clean homes I found out how much I enjoyed changing the atmosphere, hearing the sighs of relief and compliments from my clients, and the idea that one who wasn’t physically able to clean due to health reasons could enjoy a space they deserved. After many cleans and much thought I desired to turn my side cleaning into a full time business but wasn’t altogether prepared for that leap of faith so I waited and continued to learn the many fundamental lessons of running a cleaning business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cleaning is much more than just seeing a mess and cleaning it up, it’s about changing the atmosphere. Studies actually show that cortisol (stress hormone) levels are higher in people who have a cluttered home. Chronic clutter can leave your body constantly in a low-grade fight-or-flight mode, which is taxing on your body and mind. These are the things I consider in my cleaning, how I can be the driving force to my clients well being physically and mentally. My development in this industry has been an interesting one, it’s been through much prayer, sleepless nights, lots of YouTube and stepping out on faith! One thing I’ve learned is to perfect the basics and the rest will come in the appropriate time. Initially, I focused more so on my clients and their needs and displeasures. I took a lot of constructive criticism and considered all possible ways to grow. My clients in the beginning were family members and friends and boy were they tough; they definitely prepared me for the world! As I learned those lessons, I learned the importance of self worth. Once I grasped the basics then I had to know my worth and not settle for anyone. All of these lessons came with time and experience. As I continued to developed and hit road blocks I would be told to watch other cleaning services and mimic different things they’d do but I couldn’t find it in me to be something I wasn’t. My cleaning service is faith based, fun yet professional and full of insight and tips for my clients and followers. I believe our environments are so important and that is why I take pride in the work that I do and find it exciting to see it go from a mess to a miracle. Your cleaning goals truly are ours too!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take that friend to Greater Heights Houston to check out the delicious vegan restaurants, ride bikes around Memorial Park and just relax!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am forever grateful for my Pastor and Bishop from Refuge Temple Ministries who encouraged, enlightened, corrected and gave me much wisdom on pursuing my cleaning business. My pastor would meet with me each month and discuss my finances and business, coaching me on how to save and invest. This played a huge part in me preparing to go full time, because of those meetings I was able to start my cleaning services without being behind on any bills, even get out of debt. They have been a blessing to my soul as well as my business.
