We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Melendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, how do you think about risk?
risk = opportunity Every risk comes with a reward. In life, you must set goals, and sometimes you’ll have to take risks in order to achieve those goals. If you choose to not take a risk when faced with an opportunity, you choose to stay where you are and reject the possibility of growth. Growth is a huge motivator for me because when you believe in yourself, there is no cap to your potential. Taking your first step into something new is a risk. Deciding to put yourself out there is a risk. Spending time and money on a small business idea is a big risk. I am happy for every risky investment or decision I have made to get me where I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Taking a piece of vintage clothing and seeing it not for what it is but what it could be, is what sets me apart from others. I find thrill in finding cool pieces I can envision myself curating with bleach or color-dye. After working on an item, unwrapping the finished masterpiece to see the end result is the most exiting moment for me. This has not come easy because it has taken me so much trial and error to get as good as I am now. At first, I just stuck to bleach dye because it was so much more easier than tie-dye. Everytime I tried to tie-dye, I would mess up somehow. Thankfully I am a persistent kind of guy and kept trying until I finally started getting the hang of it. Now I can say I am pretty skilled at creating different forms of tie-dye. This taught me that never giving up on something and learning from your mistakes can take you a long way. I want the world to know, that if anyone ever needs help adding some drip to your wardrobe, let us know and we got you! 🙂

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you are someone who is new to Houston, I can definitely point you in the right direction. Below I have included some of my favorite spots in the city: (Clothing Stores) Mania Tx, Bounce Back HTX, Petty Cash, RAXX, The Faculty Hype, and my favorite one of them all ……THE MONTROSE MARKET! (Food Spots) Miyako, Local Poke, The Waffle Bus, The Burger Joint, and YoYo’s Hot Dogs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had many inspirational people and brands that have influenced my movement and helped bring identity to what I do. Below are some people/brands I’d like to give special recognition to: – My supportive girlfriend, Geline for being there for me since day one <3 – My mom, for showing me if you want something in life you gotta go get it! – The homie TP Vintage, for being so welcoming my first time ever doing a vendor market and for really introducing me to vintage clothing. – Travis Scott, for showing me that believing in yourself when following your dreams is key. – The book, ” Rich Dad, Poor Dad” for changing my whole mindset on how I view life and the way money works. – and lastly, The Law of Attraction, for being immensely powerful.
