We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Mugabo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I love making art! Making art is my way of telling a story without using words. As they say: “ a picture is worth a thousand words!”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love photography! I don’t shoot just to make money. I didn’t get into photography for money. I feel incredible creating art and not just when shooting portraits but also when shooting different types of photography like shooting; Street, Urban, Portrait, Nature or other types of art, including abstract.

Any challenges?
As any other types of passion or career, there’s always some ups and downs.
One of the many challenges for me is that, since I shoot a lot of different styles of photography, it becomes overwhelming. It’s hard to sometimes focus on only one category.

How do I manage it?
By having balance.
I take some time to only focus on portraits and once that’s done, I start focusing on street photography and so on and so forth.
You need to have balance.

Art isn’t just for one person. I enjoy creating art by myself as well as creating them with others. By collaborating with other artists. Which I tend to do regularly. I’m not better compare to other artists in Houston but I’m better than I was yesterday!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A few of my favorite places to visit are: 1) Museum of Fine Arts
2) The Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park
3) Houston’s Street Art (it’s overlooked by tourists but it’s outstanding)
4) Buffalo Bayou Park
5) Rice University Campus
As a photographer I enjoy visiting these locations. Food wise, I’m really not the best person to ask but a friend of mine (Tobi) is the best at dining places. You can find her on instagram as @eatzwithtobi trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In brief; I’d like to say thanks to my real friends and family for always encouraging me to make more masterpieces and to make more memories. Photography is my way of expressing myself without using words. Without you all, I don’t know where and/or what I was going to be doing today. Once again, thank you so much everyone!
