We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Simpson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2007 I returned from teaching overseas in Southeast Asia and did not see opportunities in the USA that linked me to working globally. I took the leap and set up KDSL USA. The focus was to be on collaborating with schools and organizations around the world with a focus on learning.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Today my company is now called KDSL Global. We are a leading learning organization focused on empowering educators and education businesses globally. Central to what we do are people and relationships. Many talk about networking and we focus on connecting people and education organizations around the world based on their needs.
It was not easy. In 2010 I moved back to Dubai and served as a consultant before setting up a company that was based in the Middle East from 2013-2020. With a start up comes many challenges (financial, getting business, reputation). This was all overcome by staying true to our vision and remaining focused on people and their needs.
I have learned to have standards, mentor, give, task risks, and embrace change.
I would want the world to know that starting up a company takes time, patience, and perseverance. What I am most grateful is the learning and process since starting back in 2007.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am now based in downtown Dallas, Texas. There is so much to do in what times seems like a small town. Some areas we would journey to include:
We are going to eat and walk
Lower Greenville
Explore the shops in Deep Ellum
Farmer’s Market (Across from where I live)
Parliament for happy hour specials
Dallas Museum of Art
Tacos at La Ventana
Thai at Crushcraft
Chicken tenders at Roy G’s
Botanist in Bishop Arts
The rooftop at Canvas hotel
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my mother, Paulette Simpson. She has always been a source of encouragement and invested in my dream to go back to Dubai and set up an education company.
Alister Aranha has been a long time friend and business advisor who was why I took the risk and moved to Dubai.
