We had the good fortune of connecting with Kia Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started KiaInDaKitchen, I really just wanted to put my energy into something good. This idea came to me during summer 2020 while we were on lockdown for Covid-19. At that time, I felt like all I did was work and sit at home watching food videos on social media. I knew I liked to cook and take pictures of my food so I told myself that I would start my instagram food page. I came up with the name one day, created the page, but I didn’t tell anyone for a while. Then I told myself that no matter what happened, as long as I started the page, I couldn’t be defeated! I assured myself that followers and likes didn’t matter as long as I was trying.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel like I set myself apart from other food influencers by remaining relatable. I post content that my followers and other users can actually utilize like easy recipes to make at home and different restaurants to try in various cities.
To get to where I am professionally, I owe 90% of it to my consistency. Remaining consistent has definitely contributed to my success. Posting on social media regularly and even posting when I don’t feel like it has definitely helped me succeed and stay relevant. Setting intentional goals has led me to where I am now. Not only has it helped me succeed but it’s also helped me track my success.
Starting my business has not been easy. However, to overcome nervousness and skepticism, I’ve assured myself that in this process there are no failures only lessons.
I’ve learned to keep going no matter how many likes, views, or followers I have.
I want the world to know that KiaInDaKitchen is an upcoming world renowned private chef, traveling food influencer, and content creator. I want people to know that my business is the product of hard work and faith and that anybody can achieve the success I’ve had and will continue to have.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Places that I love to take visitors in Houston are LaLucha for oysters and fried chicken
Taqueria El Ranero (Food truck)
Juliet for upscale appetizers and drinks
Rays BBQ for brisket. Pinkertons for brisket
Fete832 studio for a painting session
Cali’s Kitchen+Bar for music, food, and drinks
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom is the most encouraging and supportive person ever. She keeps me going. Also, my social media followers aka my food friends. I wouldn’t be here without them
