We had the good fortune of connecting with Kid Kits of Cypress Jordan & Jamie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kid Kits of Cypress, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We had been creating sensory/playdoh kits for quite some time for our own children and sharing on our personal social media pages. People constantly asked if we would sell our product. A friend asked (during that time) for us to create 10 play doh kits for a birthday party and the rest is history. We are glad to have purpose other than being moms and it has allowed for our creative side to come out!
What should our readers know about your business?
Kid Kits of Cypress is a business that was created by two friends and former teachers who have a passion for learning. Every idea is created from our own experiences with our children. It started as a way to entertain our own children and expanded from there. Friends continued to ask if we would share ideas and or sell our product. The biggest challenge was finding the perfect playdoh recipe. It took months to find the right color, texture, and long lasting recipe. After a lot of trial and error, we believe we have set on a recipe. We are constantly changing and adjusting as needed. We think the biggest thing to remember as a business owner is customer service. If someone isn’t happy, do your best to make it right and they will continue to return. In the end, we are here to expand on the imagination of your children and spark independent play.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a kid friendly business, we think it is important to highlight all the kid friendly locations in Houston, but specifically our area of town – Cypress! We both live in Bridgeland, which is known for its parks and amenities as well as the beautiful surroundings. We would tour our family and friends around the neighborhood and then make sure to stop at Kidtastic Park to allow the kids to run around and enjoy a wonderful indoor play place. We would then be sure to take them to lunch at Local Table. It is family friendly, but also a perfect place for a date night! Another favorite, especially for the younger ages is Playstreet Museum. All of these businesses are run by parents like ourselves and are local owners! This is just a small glimpse into what Houston has to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
