We had the good fortune of connecting with Kierra Kirkwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kierra, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued this career genre because it was what calmed me. To me it’s more than just a career it’s a lifestyle, a coping mechanism when I’m frustrated or feeling down, a calling and just over all my joy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I see my work as art. I find beauty and joy in creating wigs and transforming a simple bundle or wig into a beautiful style that brings happiness to whomever is wearing it! What sets me apart from other hairstylists is that I’m not afraid of challenging myself, I would never want this journey to be a easy one because it means I will never have to push myself past my comfort zone. I got this far going past my limits and realizing that there’s no level I can’t reach. There may be times where I wake up not feeling my best but remembering that even on those days my talent is a blessing that was given to me to be used and seeing how happy I make others feel is always enough motivation for me!

 

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Midtown! A week long trip in midtown filled with the greatest food and drinks spots like Present Company, La Calle and Burger Joint! Riding motor scooters down the Montrose area to the hottest clubs in Houston like Pearl Houston and Behind Closed Doors.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout this journey my number one supporter has been my husband. He’s been the one who has been pushing me and supporting me like no other! He deserves all the credit next to god himself. Without him, I probably wouldn’t have made it this far in my journey and for all of his encouragement and support I am forever thankful.
