We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiki McCray, NCC, LPC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiki, how does your business help the community?
My business helps the community by providing therapy in a modern and assessable way. I am doing my part to break the stigma around mental health by having hard conversations and sharing mental health tips in a way that’s digestible and relatable. Whether it’s via instagram, speaking engagements, my digital products or newsletter-I consistently give my community strategies to use to live a mentally healthy life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my career as a special education teacher. I knew that I wanted to help my students more than what I was able to as their teacher so I decided to go to grad school to become a therapist. I launched my virtual private practice while pregnant with my first child, during the pandemic so that I could make modern mental health accessible to people of color during all of the hard world transitions we were experiencing.

While trying to figure adulting out, I’ve made unhealthy decisions, mishandled conflicts and was unhappy in my career. I put my mental wellness on the back burner not knowing that it was a direct connection to my struggles. I realized there had to be more to life and that I needed to completely revamp my mindset and focus on my mental health to enable me to have positive results in life.

My experience paired with my years of training enables me to meet my clients where they are and support them on their mental health journeys to activate their voices, set healthy boundaries, combat negative thinking and live healthy, productive lives. I’m here to give clients a shortcut to figuring out adulting. I make their journeys easier, so they don’t have to experience unwanted stress.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to individuals who are loud & proud about their mental health journeys. Because of YOU, more people are making their mental health & wellness a priority.
