We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Felix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to give children 0 to 5 years old an all inclusive, safe, and clean indoor playground dedicated specifically for them to run and be free.

What should our readers know about your business?
There are a few things that sets my indoor playground apart from others. First, I am the first and only Black Woman-Owned indoor playground owner in Arizona. Secondly, not only do we provide a safe and clean place for young children to play and have parties, but we support their development through our tutoring program. Thirdly, we are all inclusive and welcome children with all abilities.
I am where I am today business -wise through my passion for children, trial, and error. Even now, I’m still learning. This journey has not been easy. I am in a new state where my connections were little to none. The biggest lesson that I’ve learned on my business journey is listen to what your mind is telling your spirit. Follow that and don’t second guess it.
The Learning Playground, is a hidden gem in Phoenix, Arizona that is dedicated to providing fun, entertainment, and educational support to young children through play.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of course we would eat at a few of the amazing restaurants such as: Sugar Jam and Hot N Juicy Crawfish. We would shop at some of the beautiful shopping district and enjoy the beauty of the Japanese Garden.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There were three women that inspired me as Educators. Because of their passion, enthusiasm, and love for their students and teaching I developed into the Teacher, I am. Mrs. D. Hutton, was one of my highschool teachers. She demonstrated love and kindness to all of her students and pushed us to do our best. Ms. V. Smith was the Lead Teacher of a preschool class and I was her assistant. Her enthusiastic fun way of teaching brought out my creativity in teaching. Lastly, my college professor Dr. M. Tomcyk taught me the theory behind teaching and exhibited grace and love that should be shown towards children in their developmental years.
