We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kris, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business came from a deep desire to create something that could impact others and offer them the tools for personal and financial growth. For years, I’ve been passionate about helping people amplify their voices and build their brands, which led me to launch The City Highlights podcast. Through this platform, I’m able to share the stories of entrepreneurs, artists, and visionaries, while simultaneously learning from them and seeing the gaps where people need more support and knowledge.
I realized that there were so many individuals eager to improve their skills—whether it’s in content creation or personal trades like braiding. That’s when I knew I needed to offer something more tangible. So, I decided to create my own courses. The Content Creation Masterclass was designed for anyone who wants to learn how to create engaging, impactful content, while the Braid Mastery Course was born out of my own experience in the beauty industry. These courses provide people with hands-on tools and guidance to not just improve their skills but build financial freedom at their own pace.
The thought process was simple: I wanted to create something that allowed people to tap into their potential, whether that was through storytelling, branding, or learning a new trade. These businesses aren’t just about financial success for me—they’re about empowering others to live their best lives and create a legacy they’re proud of.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Thank you so much for this opportunity to share more about my journey, my art, and the brand I’ve worked so hard to build.
At the core of everything I do is the belief in empowerment—whether it’s through content creation, my courses, or my community-focused initiatives. What sets me apart is my ability to blend creative storytelling with impactful, actionable education. Through The City Highlights podcast, I’m able to connect with and elevate the voices of incredible entrepreneurs and artists. But my work doesn’t stop there. I also aim to give people the tools to shine on their own, whether it’s through content creation or mastering a craft like braiding. It’s all about helping people find their unique voice and, more importantly, turn it into something that can provide them with financial freedom.
One of the initiatives I’m most excited about is Rated X. While we’ve had three powerful events so far to raise awareness and create a safe space for individuals to fall apart and rebuild, we’re planning even bigger things for 2025. Our goal is to officially launch Rated X as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that provides vital mental health resources to underserved communities, with a special focus on children of parents suffering from mental illness. These events have allowed us to connect with individuals, share stories, and begin laying the foundation for long-term support.
Rated X’s mission is more than just awareness; we want to create lasting change through actionable resources and mentorship. In 2025, we will offer free mental health sessions, support groups, and educational initiatives to guide individuals on their healing journey. The work we’ve started through our events is just the beginning, and we’re determined to provide a space where people can heal, grow, and rebuild their lives.
The journey to get here hasn’t been easy. There have been many challenges along the way, including learning how to pivot, navigate uncertainty, and manage the weight of building something from the ground up. But what has kept me going is my unwavering belief in the mission and the support I’ve received from my community. I’ve learned the importance of resilience, staying true to my purpose, and trusting the process—knowing that setbacks are simply stepping stones toward something greater.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success is not a straight line. It’s a journey filled with growth, adaptation, and learning. Every challenge we face is an opportunity to evolve, and it’s that mindset that drives me forward every day.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that everything I do is rooted in authenticity, purpose, and empowerment. Whether it’s through my podcast, my courses, or Rated X, my mission is to uplift others and help them discover their own paths to success and healing. We’re here to build a legacy that not only empowers but transforms lives.
I’m so grateful for the progress we’ve made, but 2025 will be a year of even greater impact as we officially launch Rated X as a nonprofit and continue our mission to support those in need.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I absolutely want to dedicate my shoutout to the people who have shaped my journey and continue to inspire me every day. First, my sons—they are the why behind everything I do. Their love and motivation fuel every decision I make.
Next, I want to recognize Kengi Johnson, the owner of GMT Broadcasting Company, and Meka Diamond of Meka Diamond Inc. Both have been instrumental in my growth, offering me support, mentorship, and encouragement when I needed it most. Their belief in me has played a huge part in the success of The City Highlights and in helping me find my purpose.
And last but certainly not least, I want to give all glory to God for His guidance, blessings, and grace. Without His support, none of this would be possible. Every step of this journey is because of Him.
Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of my story—I’m truly grateful!
