We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Giles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have always been a risk taker, especially growing up. Say yes now, and figure the rest our later is kind of my motto and in a way, that motto has instilled confidence in myself. When it comes to my career and building my business, I naturally took the same approach. Being able to be comfortable with taking risks and saying “yes” to things that would move the needle in my business has been vital to my success in building a successful career.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work centers around connection and emotion between my clients. My goal is to portray the way that the connect with each other through my camera. The drive to build a body of work that centers around that is what has pushed me to keep creating and developing ways of drawing that out from my clients. This is not always the easiest and there have been challenges in getting genuine moments at times, but what always gets me through those challenges is having an authentic connection with my clients themselves. I have noticed that if I am open and genuine with them, they feel more comfortable with me and then open up to showing me a true connection with their partner/loved ones. To me, this work is about serving my clients as much as it is about getting “pretty pictures”. These images that I have the honor of creating are what my clients will look back on. These images will trigger memories and feelings. These images will be shown to others as a way to bookmark a. moment in time. Being asked to document those times is an honor that I do not take lightly.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank the people that have helped me along the way, through the journey of creating a business that has been able to thrive. Having them in my circle, encouraging me to keep going when things were hard and cheering me on when things were going well, is everything.
