We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristi Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristi, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We all know the age old saying “love what you do and you’ll never work another day in your life.” But do we really put that into motion in our lives? I’d say more often than not, we don’t, and I am definitely guilty of that. However, Pour Decisions Wine Society was born from that exact thought process – loving what we do! I have been blessed with a wonderful group of friends that enjoys getting together over food and wine. What started as a way to share our love of wine together and learn more blossomed into a business. With my best friend and business partner, I have created a wine tasting game that allows groups to try different wines, learn more about varietals, and we’ve taken the sometimes stuffy or intimidating aspects out of wine tasting and have just made it fun.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Starting a business is never easy. It’s scary. It makes you vulnerable. It’s risky. But what if the outcome outweighs the risks? My business partner and I have worked incredibly hard creating our game, testing with beta groups, revising and recreating to perfect our idea. Just before Covid-19 hit, we were preparing to launch our game to the public, but because it’s a social game that requires individuals to be together, it’s delayed our release. That has been a tough challenge. How do we adapt to include social distancing? How do we adapt to today’s world? These are all things we are working hard to develop. We will overcome it and our business will be stronger in the long run. We believe in Pour Decisions Wine Society, we have heart, and that’s what we aim to share with the world. The most important thing to know about Pour Decisions Wine Society is that it’s fun. It’s a fun way to take the foo-foo out of wine tasting. Not everyone is a sommelier. Not everyone knows what type of wine they like or what it pairs best with. This is where we come in! We aim to take the stress out of wine tasting, share fun facts, teach people new things about wine varietals, and enjoy it with their circle of friends.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not a Houston native, but I am now a Texan at heart. I fell in love with this city as soon as I moved here. Houston is so vast and has tremendous culture. We’re not all cowboys. I really love Hermann Park and the Museum District. You can picnic, listen to music, attend a festival, go to the zoo or museums, stroll in the lush gardens. It’s all right there. I could get lost there for days. My friends and family really enjoy the craft beer scene here in Houston as well. You’d definitely catch us visiting some of our favorites like Buffalo Bayou Brewing, City Acre, Baileson, Astral, Platypus, Megaton, Back Pew and Southern Star. Breweries have become fun for the whole family and our city has a ton of fun to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know there’s no way I’d be where I am today without the love and support of my family. My husband, Ryan, continues to support my hairbrained ideas and creative outbursts, and more than that, he truly believes in them. My parents are always behind me and they get so excited when I come to them with my ideas. They always say, “If anyone can do it, it’s you! You say you’re going to do something and it’s done!” My kids, while young, think I am a superstar. I think I’ll ride that one out as long as possible. While it may seem cliché to list family, those are my people. If no one else in the world cared, they would, and that’s what matters most. I do it all for them.
