We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristyn Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always found makeup interesting but it wasn’t until I got my makeup done for prom that made me realize I had a passion for it. I wanted to learn everything there was to know about it. I studied vigorously until I was comfortable with doing it on myself then I transitioned to doing it on others. It brings me genuine joy to make people look and feel beautiful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m so proud to have been able to build a clientele doing something that doesn’t even feel like work. The road here was not easy at all I spent months without any clients wondering if I should just give up. The only way I overcame this obstacle is by betting on me and putting everything I have into my craft. I just want it to be know that I don’t do this just for the financial aspect of it but I have a deep love for what I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is such a big and beautiful place with a lot of fun things to do so it’s kinda hard to choose. First I would start off with breakfast at Mo Betta Brews this place is truly amazing and it is 100% vegan. My favorite drink is a strawberry mango margarita on the rocks and comes from a Mexican restaurant called Mi Rancho so we can do lunch there. I love nature so lastly I would just go to the Duessen Park and sit by the water.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special shoutout to my mentor Alazhia Burrage. She truly helped me transform my makeup business and I am so grateful to have been partnered with her.
