We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Santiago and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process to starting my own business was gradual. I always knew I wanted to work for myself and become a entrepreneur. After being in the beauty industry for 11 years, I wanted to create a safe yet comfortable space for my clientele to come and feel amazing while working on my brand and marketing. I love the idea of working from scratch and building my own name for myself. What should our readers know about your business?
I am so proud to have opened up Hairology Studio. Our Mantra is, “Good Hair, Good Vibes.” and that’s exactly the type of environment i’ve worked extremely hard to create. Over the years I worked to establish my clientele along with a name for myself. I never really consider myself a business owner and honestly never thought about it until a few years ago when i finally saw how much my hard work had payed off. I opened up Hairology Studio with a intent on one day having my own stand alone salon but at the same time continuing what i love to do, which is making people feel good and look beautiful. At my studio i take my time with my clients to make sure they are completely happy with their service and they feel like they are getting their money’s worth. There are a lot of salons out there that rush you, who don’t talk you through your service and expectations and i don’t want to be known as that. We take our time, i talk to my clients about every little detail, expectations, after care, next appointment and pricing. When you leave, you leave with good hair and good vibes.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A weekend in Houston Itinerary: -FIrst we would wake up and good for a run or nice long walk along Buffalo Bayou Or Memorial Park. Those are great trails that i would recommend checking -post meal at Either Vibrant if we’re feeling healthy or At Hugos for a mimosa type vibe. -Then mid day go to the Menil for some art and outdoor park vibes. -Discovery Green -Afternoon happy hour at Eight Row Flint or Nettbar -Houston Museum Of Natural Science or The Museum of FIne Arts -On the weekends visit the local markets they have around town -NASA : Space Center Houston is a must -Dinner at Musaafer, El Tiempo, Pappasittos, Bisou, Steak 48 -Night life in Houston: checkout The Davenport Lounge, bar in Midtown or HeightsThe Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My clients are the reason I can do what I love and create the life I live. Without them I wouldn’t have anything and I appreciate every single one of them. Individually they give me so much advice, expertise, love and support. They are truly my inspiration to become the better version of myself. Along with them, my business partner Emma Whitney has been a blessing to my life with her support. She’s taught me so much and I look up to her every single day. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to be in business with.
