We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyra Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have dreamed of having a business since I was in middle school. I knew I wanted to specialize in beauty, but I wasn’t sure at the time if I wanted to be in one specific thing. Once I graduated high school, I knew the first things I needed were my esthetician license and MUA certification, those I was certain of. Although right now KW Beauty Bar only offers makeup, I do plan on starting school this fall for esthetics, as well as offering laser hair removal services, PMU artistry, & possibly nails. My thought behind getting all of these licenses and certifications to create a one-stop beauty shop! I realized I don’t want to only have ONE thing I focus on, I want to offer it all! I want to create an environment where when you come into KW Beauty Bar, you feel relaxed and pampered.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began this journey of makeup artistry in November of 2022 when I graduated from MUA school in Norfolk, VA. I’d say the biggest challenge of getting into the beauty industry in general is putting yourself out there and making yourself be known. Clientele is not just going to fall into your lap and since I’ve been in Texas, I have had to find new ways to promote and showcase myself to all new people to build clientele all over again. However, I believe that my attention to detail and my passion for making people look and feel their best sets me apart from other makeup artists. I love working with people to help them enhance their natural beauty and create looks that make them feel confident and beautiful. I want to allow every person who sits in my chair to walk out feeling amazing. Although getting into the beauty industry is not an easy route, financially or mentally, I would not trade it for the world. I am living my dream & soon will have my own spa that will not only provide makeup, but a ton of other services as well. I know this is what I am meant to do!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although I am still new to the area, my absolute favorite places to eat are Lupe Tortilla, Conroe Lakehouse, and Chi Japanese Cuisine! We’d also HAVE to go to Margaritaville in Lake Conroe! Some bars I would take them to is Pearl, The Address (only on Sunday), and Sunset Houston! We’d then take a day to check out Kemah & Galveston, and finish the week off with a good Sunday Funday! Brunch would have to be at Union Kitchen, fatty at our house, and finish it out at The Address!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person I want to give a shoutout to and who deserves recognition is my mother. If it weren’t for her, I would not have survived living in the real world on my own. I would not have been able to make mistakes and know that I can count on my mom to be there for me to help guide me through whatever it is. She also helped me get through MUA school financially and mentally. Although it’s a short certification, I know anyone going through school and working full-time knows how stressful it can be. Thankfully, my mom was only a phone call away and would answer every time. I’d be lost without her.
