We had the good fortune of connecting with Lady Kaye Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lady Kaye, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well as a bossy big sister who helped raise her siblings I honestly don’t like being told what to do or being told no. When I get a no I learned how to create many of the yes moments in my life. Then I wanted to create and give yesses to people who would normally not hear it. I wanted to build an empire on what people don’t expect or see often. Everything from my comedy to singing to catering to my private clients in the kitchen I strive to make sure the people around me are satisfied. Which is the perfect recipe for being a business owner. Delighting the clientele! Lol
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I started always getting Sales positions as far as work. There’s no cap and the money you get out of it is a direct affiliate to what you make. I’ve made 10s of thousands of dollars selling things to ppl. Having something that someone wants is power. Consumer power creates generational wealth. When I stepped out and decided to do Comedy I lost sight of that thinking this industry us friendly and they’ll just buy into what I’m saying. Lol It took years to perfect my craft. Then I added singing. Now I’ve been singing all my life but bc I’m a background type of person I stayed in the back. Until recently. I ended up going through a massive amount of heartbreak and instead of folding I began to write. The tears flows and the words poured out of me as I encouraged myself through it all. My single Fairytales was like the emotional release for me. It propelled me into a better place and I ended up building more from there.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would certainly go to my family’s restaurant. But I’m very much into indie artist so I’ll take them to a few of my close friends in the artist world shows get a chance for us to network and them gain a new fan. And LADY BG Karaoke nights are the absolute best. The vibe is always on point. Cafe 101 has become a spectacular spot for me to enjoy late-night cuisine at an affordable price. The food is just awesome.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to credit a great bit of my success to my parents. They were some of the first business owners I trained with that showed me to never give up. My family now owns one of the hottest restaurants in the city JW’S PLACE SOULFOOD AND BBQ… 28533 SPRING TRAILS RIDGE You’ve got to try it. Of course my best friend and sisters Owner of The Hive Salon in Humble, TX Bella Monique, CEO of SugaTee Branding Firm and creator of Black Wall Street Nation Cher-ron Thicklin and my girl CEO of IAG Productions Poet Goddess Fe. God blessed me to keep strong black able-bodied women around me to challenge me and continue to push me toward my personal grateness. I recently met the absolute love of my life and he is the epitome of support and forward positive moves. He never allows our time to be unproductive and that was the change I needed.
