We had the good fortune of connecting with Lainey Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lainey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I truly believe that kindness, honesty, and a focus on community has been huge in building my brand. We are all drawn to and desire authentic, genuine connection and that is a top value for Weather & Story.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began Weather & Story to offer classic pieces to the modern woman. All of our bags are designed and crafted to become future heirlooms. I take pride in knowing our bags go on to join other lives and stories and will carry memories for years to come. Not always, but very often, good things take time and patience. Good stories grow rich and deep through time. I love working with leather because it carries that same quality– the innate ability to grow richer and more beautiful with time. Our bags are great right out of the box, but let me tell you, they will be at their best 5, 8, 10 years down the road.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d go straight from the airport out to Meanwhile Brewing — an amazing local brewery with a huge outdoor space among the trees. If it’s a Friday, we’d head down to the Continental Gallery on South Congress to listen to live Texas Swing and watch the regulars dance around the tiny bar room — one of my absolute favorite things to do in Austin. Maybe we’d grab a late night slice of pizza from Homeslice before heading home. On Saturday morning, we’d pick up tacos from El Tacorrido and go for a morning swim at Barton Springs, followed by a visit to Zilker Park. We’d spend the afternoon wandering through Umlauf Sculpture Garden, enjoying the current outdoor exhibit. Saturday night we’d be down on East 6th enjoying live music and drinks at White Horse. We’d finish the weekend with an easy Sunday brunch at Easy Tiger and a hike through the beautiful greenbelt.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m grateful to have active support and encouragement from my family — no matter what endeavors I have explored, they have cheered me on, believed in me, offered wisdom and guidance, and said the hard things when needed. Huge shoutout to my dear ones for being pillars in my life!
