We had the good fortune of connecting with LaKeshia Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaKeshia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
You would think that since there’s a pandemic there would be many places hiring in the medical field. However, so many nurses are going back to school to be a Nurse Practitioner because being a bedside nurse is a lot of hard work. So many states are over saturated with Nurse Practitioner. That being said, after I got laid off in December 2020 and couldn’t find employment that was willing to pay a decent salary, I prayed and asked God to show me a sign. That prayer was answered with a business idea to start my own house calls practice. I did house calls for my previous employer and I seen first hand how much the elderly population benefited from this type of service. I love the flexibility of making house calls and I felt like it was the perfect season to do so with so many people afraid to leave their house in fear of catching COVID. So, I hit the ground running, it only took me 5 months before I started seeing my first patients.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am in the business of helping people live a healthier better quality of life. I started my house calls practice to help the elderly population who couldn’t go to the doctors office or clinic to get the healthcare that they needed. However, I am a Family Nurse Practitioner so I can see all ages, so now that the pandemic has changed our new normal there are more people who prefer to receive medical care at home, so I see children and adults of all ages in the comfort of their home. I show up at their door step with urgency and lots of love to assist those in need with their medical needs. I am able to do just about everything that can be done in a doctors office in the individuals home. I provide non-emergent primary care, sick visits, telemedicine visits, and sports physical. I also do tuck in visits for someone that has recently been discharged from the hospital or nursing home, it’s called transition of care. As well as working with home health companies to get patients the extra help they need during a health crisis or decline. Chest X-ray, EKG, and blood can be drawn in the home of Phlebotomist, Leticia Dean at livingwell.solutions. I am able to sit with my patients have a cup of coffee with them and truly give them my undivided attention to understand what their needs may be. I listen to their concerns and involve them in their treatment plan.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s funny that you ask that because my best friend live in Las Vegas and she is coming to visit for her birthday in April. She’s actually from Beaumont, but she hasn’t visited in over 10 years. So I would definitely take her for the bike tour downtown hosted by Spindletop cruisers, it’s really a good time they play a lot of the good music from back in the day, the 90’s and 2000 jams. I would take her to the link link Because they’re one of the new restaurants in Beaumont and they’ve vegan food is bussin bussin like my teenager say. Lastly, I would take her to the Southeast Texas selfie museum because they’re a new upcoming business in Beaumont and who doesn’t like to take selfies. For a drink I would take her to Dmoney daiquiri lounge it’s a nice atmosphere, the daiquiri’s are on point and he has a live DJ and Karaoke night.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all, I give all glory to God Elohim and my church family at World Mission Society Church of God. My faith keeps me grounded and pushing forward during the tough times. I also would like to thank my friends Ianthia Henson who is also my accountant and Tierra Joseph who is also my hairstylist at BeauTful Kurls these two women have encouraged me through this journey. They have both given me advice and pushed me to step out of my comfort zone. I am forever grateful to have them in my corner.
