We had the good fortune of connecting with LaSandra Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaSandra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business because I wanted to help others! For years, I struggled with who I was as a person for fear of not being accepted. I took on the identity of the person I thought others wanted me to be instead of who Christ was calling me to be. Because of that, I had no sense of who I was as an individual or where I was going. So, I decided to write a book, “Uniquely You: Pulling Off the Mask” to encourage and help others to disrobe themselves of all of the masks they put on hiding who they really are from the world so that they can embrace that beautiful being inside.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most excited about the work I did on myself. Because of that, I had the courage to start my coaching business to help others. I overcame self-sabotaging behaviors that were holding me back. Those behaviors were contributing to me questioning why I was here on earth. I worked on myself so I could help others! It was not easy but in order to help my target audience I have to be able to relate, it’s difficult to empathize with others when you don’t understand their challenges and cannot relate to their issues. I am successful because I know firsthand how my clients feel but more importantly what they must do to overcome those behaviors that are holding them back.
The biggest lesson I learned was to love myself! One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is self-acceptance and self-love, this is how I overcame my challenges! I am no longer a self-saboteur, I am now an encourager, I empower, and I inspire others to be the best version of themselves.
I want the world to know that I am a transformational coach specializing in helping others change their mindset in how they see themselves, which in turn, changes the behaviors and actions that no longer serve them in having a purpose-driven life. Your mindset influences your behavior and subsequent actions. I help others address the root causes of their negative view of themselves. The reason why I am so effective is that I used to be them and I am transparent about my past and shortcomings. What I do is truly my calling, my purpose, and my passion. I love helping others, and I challenge my clients to change by helping them to transform their mindsets for positive consistency, and sustainable change.
I have a personal stake in my client’s success and am committed to seeing them through the process. I have counseled, coached, and prayed for people because I genuinely care.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am pretty laid back and I love the water. So, if my friend was planning to hang out with me for a week we would not stay in Houston, TX. My best friend and I are going to San Fransico, California because staycations are not really my thing! We would start with a tour around the Bay Area stopping off by Pier 39 for dining and entertainment, We would take a train tour of Napa Valley (because I love wine), and go to some of the famous museums because I love art and history. Finally, we would take a ride down Pacific Coast HighwayI I also have a love for beautiful scenery.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first want to recognize my mother, Emma Alexander for having unwavering faith and not giving up all those years ago when she didn’t know how she would make it with three small children after my father was murdered. She held on to God’s promises in the midst of the adversities she faced and never complained. There have been so many women who have crossed my path and poured into me over the years. I now know they saw in me what I did not see, what I could not see in myself. I am forever grateful for their investment of time, kind words, and resources.
I am grateful for my husband, Kelvin Collins, though our road was bumpy at first, he never gave up on us! I thank him for pushing me to pursue my life’s purpose and for also seeing in me what I did not see, what I could not see in myself. I am very fortunate to have a King who is not afraid to let his Queen shine. Of all the seats that are in the rooms that I speak in, the one seat that matters most is the one Kelvin occupies at my conferences.
