We had the good fortune of connecting with LaShonda Johnson, CFEd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaShonda, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always desired to own my own business. My father was an entrepreneur and it’s a gift I believe God blessed me with through his genes. I started my professional career in corporate America and found myself looking out of my corner window wishing that I was out in the world paving my own path versus traveling down a manufactured one. I spent 16 year’s marching to the beat of someone else’s drum before I decided to make my own music. Entrepreneurship is an art and your business is your creation.
What should our readers know about your business?
2021 is an exciting year for me as I launch Securum Insurance Solutions, Inc., Securum Business Solutions and the re branding of my 12 year Independent Financial Professional Practice. I am now a full service provider for my clients. My services include everything from helping my clients retire and save for major purchases such as a home to protecting their home through homeowners insurance and life insurance to protect their life. Being able to take care of the multiple needs of my clients with professionalism and ease is what sets me apart from others. It is my goal to create an agency experience like non other for those that I serve. Dedication, hard work, passion, perseverance and commitment are all contributors to where I am today in business. It hasn’t been easy. Staying alive and recreating yourself in business through a worldwide pandemic has definitely presented its challenges but I decided to use this time to expand my knowledge, expertise and services. My will to succeed keeps me going. I’m my hardest critic and I compete consistently with myself. I push myself to always be better. I believe complacency can kill a business faster than lack of production. I’ve learned to pivot when necessary and to position myself appropriately to take advantage of opportunities for business growth. I’m supper excited bout Securum and it’s entities. The brand is positioned for future expansion and services. In business, it does matter how you start as it sets the stage for how you will finish.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I’m ready to have some down time and grab a bite with friends by favorite spot is Yard House for its bites and flavored beers. Pineapple is one of my new favorites. City Orchard is another favorite for ciders and lite bites. Bellagreen’s white chocolate bread pudding and salmon salad is another go to that never disappoints along with my very own kitchen which I can usually whip up some pretty good eats in. Memorial park is my favorite spot to provide a nice backdrop for a walk and exercise. My ideal past time is spent traveling. I love visiting other places and countries and learning about their culture. Can’t wait to take off again post covid.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This shoutout is dedicated to my mom, Dorothy Evelyn Carter Johnson. Outside of God almighty, my creator, my mom is the biggest reason for the woman I am today. I am a duplication of her strength, perseverance, strong will, compassion and love of life. It’s really scary how much I see my mom in me but I embrace every bit of it. My mom was so fun and full of life regardless of her circumstance. I’m proud to be a representation of her spirit.
