We had the good fortune of connecting with Lataja Marshall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lataja, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It all started at the age of 15 when I started modeling for my cousin hair company. Watching her build her company inspired me to become my own boss. I officially started my wig business at the age of 18 before heading to college. First I named it LacedByTae, which I didn’t really put much thought into it. Then, I renamed it Lavish Chic Collection. I started selling different beauty items such as lashes, lipgloss, t-shirts, shoes etc., which was not really my thing but I was just trying to figure out my niche. Finally I decided it was time to rebrand my business but this time I wanted to incorporate my future career field, pharmacy, so I renamed it The Wig Rx, home of the wig pharmacy. I’ve always wanted to be a pharmacist, there was no doubt about it. As I was coming into my Junior year of college, I realized how much love and passion I had for my business that I no longer wanted to attend Pharmacy school. I decided to just complete my bachelors degree and continue my business full-time. Since then, I have added The Wig Rx Academy where a I teach wig making classes. I am currently on a Tour and my next stop is September 4th, Houston, Tx! So if you know anyone that would love to learn how to make a custom wig by sewing machine, this is the place to be!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand The Wig Rx, will be able to serve not only the beauty industry but the medical industry very soon! I am currently working on a project for the medical industry, that I can’t wait to share once it’s completed. I believe this is what will make us stand out from your typical wig companies.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would I like to thank God, without him none of this would be possible. Secondly I would like to thank my family and friends for the love and support over these last 4 years. They have supported me from day 1, I don’t know if I could’ve made it this far without them by my side.
