We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTasha Kennard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTasha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Hi, My name is LaTasha Kennard, better known as Tasha. I was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and raised in Franklin, Louisiana. At the age of 13, I was adopted and moved to Houston, Texas, on the southwest side of town, also known as S.W.A.T. I have one beautiful 17 year old daughter, three beautiful stepdaughters, a wonderful boyfriend and a human dog name Baank. I grew up in & out of foster care with my three brothers from the ages of two till I was 13 years old. Growing up without my mother and father and not much love and support has taught me a lot. One thing for sure it taught me how to truly love. I knew early on in life, If I could love and give back to others, I would prosper.
After graduating high school, I knew I wanted to work in the medical field, because I had a passion for helping people. With hard work and dedication, I pursued and earned my Certified Nurses Assistant License, Medical Assistant License and my Medication Administration License. With over 20 years of experience, I have worked in various settings, nursing homes, hospitals, assistant livings, traveling to different states. I also worked leading activities in assisted living’s and working for one of the top rehabs in America, Tirr Memorial Hermann. Working with many patients I seen there was a need to be met that was beyond the services being offered to the patients & their family’s.
In 2019, I injured my back at work and knew I had to make a change. I prayed and asked God to lead me in the direction he wanted me to go. God spoke to me, “What are you doing? I’ve given you all the skills to work for yourself”. So, I came up with a business plan and started working towards opening my own non-medical home care business. I had thought about it for many years but never thought I would be able to do such a thing with now experience. At the same time dealing with day-to-day pain from the work injury, I still got up and put in the work. Some days I didn’t know what direction to go, but I did lots of researching and all the State of Taxes required for me to obtain my license. I shared my goals with my brother Brandon Turner my boyfriend Cory Webb my sister Ebony Hart & my dear friends Robert & Linda Adam. Along the way they were all on board to help & keep me encouraged. They assisted me in every way possible to get my business off the ground. Elite Embrace Home Health Care, LLC has been up and running in Houston and the surrounding areas, and we plan on opening an Assistant Living in the future.

I also host Pop up shops annually. My team and I will be lunching two big business in the year 2022 that we look forward to seeing grow that will help build our brand but also help build up our community.
The brand is growing and I look forward to many more adventures along the way..

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started business in my living room right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and there where so many ups and downs. Having to do everything from home was a challenge. Not being able handle business and talk face to face with someone was a huge challenge. Waiting on a responses via email was tough because calling and getting someone on the phone wasn’t always a option. Having lots of patients and faith definitely helped me get through it. There were some not so smooth days but staying focused & “Keeping My Happy” has helped me tremendously.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout all whom have helped me along the way especially my boyfriend Cory Webb. To have someone by your side that hasn’t given up on you from the moment we met is a blessing. Cory has been my biggest supporter since starting my business and has supported me in all my adventures, no matter the challenges. I would also like to acknowledge my late mother Viola Thomas. She taught me two of the greatest things in life and that’s how to love & how to give back. She is no longer here with me in the flesh but I feel she is always with me in spirit. May she RIH
