We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, how does your business help the community?
Houston Dinner Club gives our community an opportunity to meet new people and try something new. After a world of social media, dating apps, and virtual meetings, it’s easy to feel isolated and meeting in-person can be rare. The experiences we create build community, which contributes to personal growth and wellness.
We also love that we are introducing our guests to new restaurants and supporting local businesses, too!
What should our readers know about your business?
Houston Dinner Club started with a small group of friends, but opening it up the public and hosting events for up to 30 people was a totally different experience! Our mission is to build community by giving people an opportunity to try new things and meet new people, and so many of our guests get that. My favorite part of our dinner events is when people linger after dessert talking and laughing with people they didn’t know prior to arriving at the restaurant. We are able to help people connect with others, and I have loved to see our guests return with friends they have met at our events.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man, this is tough!
I would start with breakfast at Goode Co. Taqueria (my go-to is their pecan waffles and crispy bacon) before heading over to a local farmer’s market! It’s fun to chat with local business owners and check out their products. Going to an Astros game is also a must! Hopefully, the team plays well, but baseball games are great for relaxing and catching up with friends, since the pace of play is a little slower. After the game, you should head out to dinner and drinks! We love Xin Chao, Nancy’s Hustle, 93 ‘Til, Winnie’s, and Miss Carousel for a great taste of Houston and laid-back vibes!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have supported and inspired me along the way. I have to give a shout out to Jenny Sanchez, owner of the Fitista Consulting, who continues to be a wonderful sounding board for ideas and pushes me to grow the business in new ways.
