We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Wootton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I used to be the kind of person that did not want to take risks simply because I was worried that I would fail. The thing about taking risks is you never know what the outcome will be, that’s why they call it a risk. If you never step out of your comfort zone then you may end up missing opportunities that come your way. Risks are necessary for growth in all aspects of life. Once I came to terms with the idea that failure is a possibility, I no longer let it stop me. I was tired of feeling complacent with where I was at in life. I knew I had goals and ambitions in social media, so why not go all in? I will admit that I occasionally feel like I am failing, but I don’t let it stop me from pursuing my dreams. All good things take time. At the end of the day, you have to remember that you are the captain of your life. If you are not satisfied with the route you’re taking, take that risk and change courses!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For most of my life, I have been an athlete. I played volleyball for 11 years, and while I still enjoy the sport I knew it was time on to other things after my second year of playing in college. I am currently majoring in communications with a minor in marketing in hopes to get a job in tech or social media when I am done with school. I have only recently become consistent with content creating on social media. I am relatively new to content creation, and there is still a lot for me to learn. However, in the past few months of taking my social media journey seriously, I will say that what I enjoy about it is the ability to share what I love with others. It went from something I enjoy doing in my free time, to something I could use to inspire and help others that are on the same journey!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many exciting places to visit in Houston that it becomes hard to choose where to go. To start, I would go to Discovery Green. There is always something going on at Discovery Green, and even if it’s a quiet day, it is still a great place to walk around and chat. Catching brunch at The Rustic would have to be my go-to when it comes to grabbing a bite to eat. The atmosphere is unbeatable and would give my guests a feel for Houston’s energy overall! Lastly, it wouldn’t be a proper Houston visit without experiencing the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Houston Museum of natural science!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to those who have supported me from the beginning. Starting with my parents, they have worked their whole lives to ensure that my siblings and I could have what they didn’t have growing up. They have taught me the importance of hard work and dedication, and how they can help me achieve whatever I put my mind to. There have also been several friends that have shown support along the way as well. Unfortunately, I can’t name everyone, as the list would be very long! However, I would love to give my best friends, Marissa and Ladarion, recognition. They have been with me through some of the hardest parts of my life. I will forever be grateful to have friends like them by my side.
