We had the good fortune of connecting with Lesley H. Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lesley, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Early in my post-college career, I knew I had the drive to be an Entrepeneur, and so I began with starting my corporate wellness company and then went on to write a Children’s book. After the good fortune of instant success, I ran that company in corporate wellness for 15 years and finally merged with another company. After my divorce, I needed a change and decided to chase the passion that I have for construction. My love of construction and creativity started at a very young age building projects with my father, Dennis Cannon Crawford. Some of my most cherished memories revolve around my father and I repairing broken items, building things or forging new projects in his workshop. When I unexpectedly lost my father in 2018, I found comfort in honoring him by changing the company to its current name to reflect this love and his name.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cannon Construction TX did not start out with a target of being an all-female exec team, but we sure did embrace it! I am the owner and lead designer and getting to where I am today was never easy. It was God and persistence that pushed me to who I am and what I am today. Long hours and longer days are exhausting, but the reward is worth it. I have learned to “not sweat the small stuff” and that integrity is everything. What truly sets me apart is that I offer a one stop shop, guiding clients from “concept to keys”. The feedback that we get is how refreshing it is to work with a female in this field. I do realize it is not the norm to see a woman in construction, but I thoroughly enjoy the rapport that I create with both homeowners, vendors and employees.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Firstly, I would plan around a springtime visit to hopefully ensure good weather conditions. Next, I would locate live music at a local venue. You can’t avoid our fine foods of Houston, so I would make sure to secure our real Tex-Mex and BBQ on the menu and wrap the week up with a Sunday Funday bottomless mimosas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My late Father and Amazing Mother. I was so blessed to receive the best parts of both parents. I hope I emulate their strength, kindness and graciousness. I hope that I share this with my circle in life.
