We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexie Espinales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lexie, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
As an entrepreneur I’ve learned many lessons but the one that sticks out to me the most has to be to always have patience and be consistent. Building clientele isn’t the easiest thing to do neither will it happen instantaneously, but with consistency, goal-setting and well-planned out strategies you can be nothing but successful.
What should our readers know about your business?
After falling in love with the beauty industry back when I was young playing with Barbie dolls and playing hair with my mom . I decided to pursue it once I got to high school and I got involved in the cosmetology program my junior year . Going into this I had no clue what path I wanted to pursue in the cosmetology realm. I knew there were an endless amount of avenues . I went in saying I’m just going to try my best and be good and learn the basics of everything . Not until my senior year my cosmetology teacher Kedria brought in a few lash trainers to do a lash certification course with the class they were from Xtreme Lashes. I completed the course and enjoyed every minute of it. I went on to complete the cosmetology program and take two other lash certification courses. I then decided to start my own lash business as a traveling Lash Artist called Lashes by Lexie. I built on this and finally decided to stop traveling due to me getting burnt out and me devaluing myself with my prices. I decided to join my cosmetology teacher.. Kedria’s shop where I currently work today. I have came across a few challenges one being consistently marketing myself. In todays world … marketing via the internet and social media is so popular and is your main source of clients. Building my clientele from social media marketing was another struggle i endured along with making my brand stand out from all the other lash techs in Houston. Something that I take pride in as the CEO of Lashes by Lexie is that i genuinely try to educate my clients and give them the best lashes for a reasonable price.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always try to begin my week on a positive note and some goal setting . I would definitely take my friend by my favorite local coffee shop which is Dutch Bros . As the foodie i am.. I would make time in the week and take them to my FAVORITE italian restaurant called Adriatic Cafe. If shes a little picky I’d take her to my favorite food truck park called 403 Eats so my friend would have a variety to chose from. Afterward I’d take them to my favorite nail spa for a relaxing pedi. Self care is a must as im always on the go and tied down with tasks to complete. If it were basketball season I’d arrange for us to attend a Rockets game on a Friday night. Lastly I’d end it off with a bang and take them to a museum downtown .. either the natural museum of science or somewhere fun like Candytopia or the Color Factory .
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My inspiration, love and passion for the beauty industry has to be credited to my high school cosmetology teacher Kedria Grigsby. She’s always given her time and effort into giving me tips, training and teaching … up to the point that she allowed me to work in her shop. So So So grateful for this lady !!! I’d also like to give a huge shoutout to my loving family, my dear husband and In laws that are literally like my birth parents. They have always been supportive and my mentors. My mother in law has always been one of the first to volunteer to be a lash model no matter her schedule. Also shoutout to all my customers and silent promoters that repost my events and flyers, Lia Weaver especially… she would bend backwards just to make sure she gets her lashes done by me lol and to my lovely brand ambassador Bre Rideau that has been my loyal client since the beginning of my journey.. through all the ups-and-downs and trial and error of different products and techniques. Lastly thank you to all my friends that have given me tips and tricks and been there for me during the good and bad times.
