We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Cushing and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Keeping a very high level of personal service and attention to detail for each customer has always been important. Now, as we navigate through the pandemic, we find it more important than ever to make sure each client knows how much we value them.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
One of the amazing things about being in a creative industry is that the next project will always be different from the last. We primarily work with couples to design their wedding floral and while there may be repeated color palettes and themes, each couple wants something a little different. We love that aspect! We also work to bring each client a fresh look rather than taking a cookie-cutter or packaged approach. At the end of the day, while we love working with flowers (we really really do!), this business is ultimately about the people we meet and are privileged enough to work with. It’s easy to get in the rut of thinking about work in terms of “just another order”, or a set of parameters on a page. What really matters are the amazing people and the special families that we get to know. Remembering that we are able to do this at one of the most special times in their lives, while planning a wedding, gives us such a special sense of pride and connection!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Petals by Design success story would not happen without two important people. First, I’d like to honor Laura Patino, who has now been with us for 12 years. (Wow! How has it already been that long?) She brings her incredible design talents, and business savvy to the table every single day. Beyond that, she is a dear friend and I couldn’t be more thankful that we get to work and grow this business together. Second, my husband Matthew is truly my real life super hero. Every step of the way he has been, and continues to be, my biggest cheerleader. From encouraging me 17 years ago to take the plunge and start a business, to helping load up and help with deliveries and installations, he jumps in and helps any way he can.
