We had the good fortune of connecting with Liska Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liska, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Reaching out to people to check on them consistently is a good habit that I have. This has helped build relationships and get referral business. 80% of my business comes from referrals, and that’s because I stay in contact with people in a genuine way. I don’t just call for business. I call to check on them and their families, I consistently send birthday cards, Christmas cards, and/or Milestones in their lives. You’d be surprised how much people appreciate you thinking about them and reaching out just to say hello. So again, being consistent in reaching out has helped my business tremendously.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I left Corporate America in September 2022 and stepped out of faith to become a full-time Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Southwest. I won Rookie of the Year in my office, which was a goal and I also won Rookie of the Year in the Houston Agent Magazine Choice Award and I was a Top 20 Realist with The Houston Black Real Estate Association. I build relationships with my clients, it’s more than a transaction it’s a Relationship. That’s what separates me from other agents. I specialize in helping First-Time Homebuyers as well as being a Listing Specialist, helping those going through a Divorce navigate selling their home while separating and going through a divorce. A lot of people do not know the first step into purchasing a home, so I love helping them, especially minorities because homeownership is a way to build wealth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her to my favorite restaurants Hillstone, The Breakfast Klub, Tiny Boxwood, Warwick, and Pollo Bravo. We would hang out in 3rd Ward at The Spot, 5015, or Swagger. I would take her shopping at Melodrama (a small Black owned Boutique in 3rd). Would go to Miller Outdoor theater for a show or just to sit in the park. Would also go to Emits Cigar Lounge for music, cigars, and adult beverages.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my husband Jamie Sims. His support with my new career change has been a huge blessing. Because I’m an Entrepreneur now, my income is inconsistent. He doesn’t complain and makes sure our family is taken care of. I’m forever thankful for his love and support.
