We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Rivera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luis, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and I come from a close-knit Puerto Rican family. Growing up in this environment has had a significant impact on who I am today. My family’s strong cultural roots and the value they place on family unity have shaped me into someone who is deeply connected to my heritage and who values relationships above all else. Being from Lancaster, a place that’s a mix of both rural and urban influences, has made me resilient, adaptable, and ambitious. It has instilled in me a strong work ethic and determination to pursue my goals, always striving for success while staying grounded in my values and traditions

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a reflection of my deep passion for capturing the essence of life through both still and moving imagery. From the moment I first picked up a camera, I was hooked. There’s something magical about seeing the world through a lens—everything becomes more intentional, more meaningful. My work focuses on documenting idyllic landscapes and moments around the globe, finding beauty in the small, often overlooked details. I’ve had the honor of displaying my images at the Ware Center in downtown Lancaster and even hosting my own art exhibition, which has been a dream come true.
What sets me apart is the connection I have with the subjects I capture. Whether it’s a breathtaking landscape or an intimate moment, I aim to tell a story through each frame. I’m proud that my art has allowed me to share a piece of my soul with others, and the excitement I feel when I see people connect with my work is unmatched. I’ve traveled to incredible places, and through each journey, I’ve discovered not just the world, but also more about myself.
The journey to where I am today has not been easy. Like many artists, I’ve faced challenges—whether it was overcoming self-doubt, finances, or just the energy to keep going. But each challenge taught me resilience and the importance of perseverance. I learned that every failure is a lesson, and sometimes, the hardest moments lead to the most growth.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that passion fuels success. If you truly believe in what you’re doing, even the toughest obstacles can be overcome. My dream is everything to me, and I’ll keep pushing forward to make it a reality.
What I want the world to know about my brand and my story is that I am more than just a photographer or an artist—I am someone who believes in the power of storytelling through imagery. Each picture I take is a snapshot of my journey and my perspective on the world. My work is not just about creating beautiful visuals, but about sharing a message of peace, adventure, and the beauty in every moment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Exploring Downtown Lancaster

If my best friend was visiting Lancaster, I’d start the week by exploring the heart of the city—downtown. We’d grab coffee at Prince Street Cafe, a local favorite with a cozy vibe. Afterward, we could walk around and visit the Lancaster Central Market, one of the oldest continuously operating public markets in the U.S. It’s the perfect spot for fresh, local food, and we’d definitely have to try some Amish baked goods or a pretzel from the iconic stand. For lunch, we’d head to Plough, known for its delicious farm-to-table menu.

In the afternoon, I’d take them to the Ware Center, where I’ve had the honor of displaying my own photography. It’s a great place to check out local art and cultural events. We could wrap up the day with drinks at The Fridge and grab a bite. The vibe is chill and relaxed, and it’s a great spot to experience the local craft beer scene.

Nature and Scenic Views

On day two, we’d take a short drive to Lancaster County Park, a beautiful, expansive space for walking, picnicking, and outdoor events. For lunch, I’d take them to Speeds, located in the east part of the city. For a great hamburger sub or cheesesteak.

The Amish Experience

Lancaster is famous for its Amish heritage, and no visit would be complete without an experience of this part of the culture. I’d take them on a tour through the Amish countryside to see the picturesque farmlands, covered bridges, and simple way of life.

For lunch, we’d have a traditional Amish meal at Shady Maple Smorgasbord, a beloved spot where you can try everything from roast turkey to homemade pies. Afterward, we’d check out the Amish Village for a glimpse into Amish life and craftsmanship.

History and Culture

We’d spend this day exploring Lancaster’s rich history and culture. A visit to the Lancaster County Historical Society would be a great way to learn about the area’s heritage. We could also check out Fulton Theatre, one of the oldest continuously operating theatres in the country, to see if there’s a show or performance that catches our interest.

For lunch, we’d try The Belvedere Inn, a charming restaurant known for its delicious contemporary American cuisine in an elegant setting. Later, we could relax at Musser park in the heart of the city for some downtime.

Through it all, Lancaster’s charm comes from its balance of history, creativity, and natural beauty. It’s a place where you can experience both the simplicity of the countryside and the energy of a vibrant arts community.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person who truly deserves all the recognition in my story is my mom, Maria Rivera, better known as ‘Angie.’ Without her, I wouldn’t be standing here today or be the person I am. Her unwavering love, guidance, and strength have shaped me in ways I can’t even fully express. From teaching me the value of hard work and resilience to always supporting me no matter what, she’s been my foundation. She’s the reason I’m so determined and ambitious. My success is as much a reflection of her sacrifices and encouragement as it is my own effort.
