We had the good fortune of connecting with Lukman Adesanya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lukman, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had an idea of starting a fitness business December of 2019. I was taking Marketing 1 in college and was inspired to use my skills on my aspirations to build my own business. From mission statements to learning about the supply chain, I was intrigued. In 2020 the pandemic came and I switched full time to personal training. First came a logo with no plans, then my colleagues introduced the idea of making resistance bands. From having just bands to having a whole fitness brand, the thought process was always “why not just 1 more?”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Where I am today is a result of what’s performed when no one is watching. I went from being on the phone late hours with manufacturers to being up late hours to making client plans for the next day. All while being a full time student in 2020. There will be times I slept less than 4 hours a day to focus on both merchandise production and retaining my clients. As well as training, I prepped for a bodybuilding show in 2021. The art of multitasking goes away with how much your schedule is filled with. The first biggest lesson I learned is be around the right people to be uncomfortable around. Being around comfortable people kept me in a place that I felt like I wasn’t succeeding and in my case it was university life. The everlasting lesson was prioritizing what field YOU want to succeed in and making time for it. It’s okay to miss out on social life to make it right for your business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not out going but I do choose night life if it’s not the gym. You can go from one social spot to another all in one night. Address, Kamp, Cloud 9, everywhere is fun in the city at night. Sunday Funday in downtown never fails. Most of the day goes to gym content or collabs so I normally would get a workout in with a friend and agree somewhere to go later in the day

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to everyone I came paths with, close or not. Before I started a business my two college friends (Billy & Mia), to my roommates at the time, to all my clients, to my first amazing training gym (Body Gym), to all my coaches (Ezy, Julian, CT) the list goes on but the last goes to local business owners and business minded people that I met in San Antonio.
