We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyndi & Jami we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lyndi & Jami, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Together our intention is to make people laugh while sharing real stories and being incredibly open. This world is changing and times are definitely crazy right now and we want our listeners to have an outlet where they can disconnect from the news and social media and just laugh at our ridiculousness…and we are pretty ridiculous.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well…every single podcast that is out in the world has it’s own unique quality…there are no two that are alike. They are as individualized as the people who are hosting them. Our podcast is no different…it is specifically is geared solely to make listeners laugh. We talk about everything and nothing all at the same time from body parts, issues that happen to us as we get older, to crazy stories and even sex. The best way to sum it up is to imagine yourself sitting around with your best friends, having a few cocktails and letting the conversation go where it will. Those type of genuine conversations filled with laughter about nonsense, love for each other, good advice when needed and just a general positive energy leaves you feeling happy and fulfilled when the conversation ends. That is what we try to do. This world is in a unique state of mind and crazy things are happening more than before. People are so locked in to the news and social media so, we try and give light and laughter in order to put out some good positive and ridiculous energy. We keep religion and politics off the table. We started a year ago and it was literally on a whim. Just said, “Hey let’s make a podcast about nothing” and here we are a year later. Was it easy…no not at first because we had no idea what we were doing. We started out sharing one microphone, trying to avoid headbutting consistently, and we were both so nervous about what we were saying that we would listen to the playback before any editing was done to make sure we didn’t sound stupid. It would take us about 4 hours to do a 30 minute episode. Over time we learned to loosen up and it made the conversations a lot more organic…we don’t care if we sound silly…life is too short to be serious all the time plus we are all silly and ridiculous at some point in our lives…we just share ours. We’ve included a lot of personal stories about EVERYTHING which in all honesty is the biggest thing that our listeners tell us they love…our brutal honesty. After the first few months we got another microphone and now have a good set up so everything flows very easily…no more head butting or hovering over the microphone trying to make sure the sound quality is good. The biggest lessons that we’ve learned in this past year are to just keep it real at all times and to stay authentic. We’ve also learned that we have to be mindful of touching the laptop while drinking and recording so we don’t accidentally lose audio and end up making serious adjustments or risk re-recording an entire episode. (That has actually happened) We are just wrapping up season one and it has truly been such a fun time for both of us…specifically because we get to hang out as friends for a couple of hours consistently every week over drinks. We would want anyone listening to know that we are here and we are real. We make fun of ourselves, we laugh at our mistakes, we are always trying to learn new things about random things and share it with everyone. It’s all unscripted with the exception of the minimal research we do via the internet (everything on-line is correct right?) and we have a disclaimer for that reason…lol! We are definitely not for everyone and we have told our parents that they are not allowed to listen…yes we are over 40, but we still want to remain in the good graces of our parents so it’s best that they just don’t listen. They don’t need to know all of our secrets.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Anytime that we have friends come into town we always like to take them to our favorite local breweries. We hit up Karbach, 8th Wonder and St. Arnold’s as our main three spots. At any one of those you can sit for hours while eating, drinking and enjoying some good people watching. If it’s baseball season, we’d definitely have to get in an Astros game…GO STROS! Houston is so massive and it’s consistently changing and new places are always popping up so, it would be one of those things where you just go where the day takes you…from Breweries to amazing taco spots like Taco’s A Go Go…the possibilities are endless of thing to do.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly our husbands deserve a HUGE shoutout! They put up with us and our dedication to making sure this podcast airs weekly. When we record, it takes time away from them as well as our kiddoes. They make sure the house keeps running and everyone is taken care of.
