Meet Lyndsey Goodnight | Wedding Designer and Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyndsey Goodnight and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lyndsey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind creating my business actually came from my best friends wedding. She and her husband had hired a day of coordinator. That day, there were a lot of mishaps including the coordinator showing up 30 minutes prior to the ceremony, while she was contracted to be there the entire day. That day, I spent it away from my best friend and tried to make sure her wedding was in order. My heart was broken not getting to be by her side while getting ready, during the day we always talked about sine we were little girls. I also learned during this I enjoyed watching an event come together and all of the other vendors working as a team to make a couples dream came true. That day, I decided I didn’t want someones best friend, or family member to ever feel the way I did. I wanted them to truly enjoy their best friends wedding day. I continued my journey to get me bachelors degree in event management and hospitality. I love being surrounded by love, and being a wedding planner gives me the opportunity to be surrounded by it all the time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
During college of the University of Houston- Hilton, I began internship with a event design company. They truly took me under their wings to show me the behind the scenes of event design. Once I graduated, I began Goodnight Events. While running the business, I ventured to work in other aspects of the event industry. I worked for an Event Production company as their sales manager. Here I learned how to juggle multiple events at one time and the behind the scenes of production, and DJ. I then received and offer to be a catering manager at a luxury wedding venue. Here I learned what it takes to cater large scale events. Following cater management, I became a venue manager at an all inclusive wedding venue. This taught me the ins and outs on what it takes to run a venue and build relationships with the couples. Each experience I have ventured into, has taught me a great deal on what it takes to run an event. I always say, if something doesn’t go as planned at a wedding, I am trained in many areas of the industry, giving me insight on how to find a quick solution.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love trying new places around town. One of my favorites spots to eat in Blue Sushi Sake Grill and ending the night off with a drink at Melrose, Sante, or Clarkwood.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband for supporting me in following my dreams while we raise our babies. My mom and sister for always being a creative guide. My father for always believing in me. My boss from my college internship, Sarah, who has continued to answer any questions I may have. The vendors who have helped me along the way to build my dream from the ground up. And mostly, to the couples who continue to trust me with the most important day of their marriage.
