We had the good fortune of connecting with Machiami Kamara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Machiami, what do you attribute your success to?
I would have to say: My Faith. Not only in God, but myself. You must have faith that those sleepless nights will always pay off in the end & faith that whatever success God wills in my life, will happen. Over the years of being a creator, I’ve transitioned from someone who didn’t care too much about my modesty online to someone who takes the time to showcase it in everything that I do. Both off and online. Especially with the way I dress, I try to incorporate who I’ve become authentically, and I think that’s what brings success. I’m still learning though, as with everything in life. It’s a daily process to get up in the morning and choose to cover yourself modestly and I’m proud of myself to go through that process.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a creator professionally for about 2 years now, but I’ve been doing it for fun for 4 years. At first, it was all fun and games until I realize that I had a talent for it. I enjoy creating content for myself, which I turned into a brand at this point in my life, as well as for other brands. That is what I am most proud of, My growth as a creator. I’ve grown immensely and I am so excited to see where the next few months will take me on my journey. One thing I can say I’ve learned on the way is that there are and will be people that will never support you because it’s you. On the other hand, some people are and will support you because it’s you. Nevertheless, be you and do you because if there’s one thing I know for sure? If you’re meant to be successful in anything that you do, it doesn’t matter who’s in your corner or not, as long as you show up for yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing I would not do is the typical NYC trip, where we’re visiting the Statue of Liberty or hitting up Times Square to watch the performers. There’s so much NYC has to offer. If we’re here for a good time, a good time is what we’ll have. The first stop will always be food. I’m a foodie and everyone knows this about me. I’m also not very picky when it comes to places to eat, as long as the food is GOOD! From restaurants like Angel of Harlem to the local deli or a halal food stand for some lunch, and then ending the night in places like Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar for some great entrees. If we’re feeling fancy, we will go to Mastro’s. Korean BBQ & Lagos Restaurant are there for a more cultural experience. As for daily activities, World Spa is a must, and a picnic at Central Park. I can go on and on forever,
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to God first and foremost for blessing me always and my girl Beatitude Olufemi for recommending me to Shoutout HTX. Without the two, I really wouldn’t be here sharing my story.
