Meet Madison Brown | Owner of Madison Dearly Bookkeeping – a bookkeeping agency for brand + website designers

We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After graduating from college with my Bachelor’s in Accounting, I worked in a Top 10 accounting firm for three years. In that job, I always felt like I had to downplay my extroverted, fun self for a professional, subdued version of myself. I have always been intrigued by entrepreneurship, but when the time came for me to start my own business, I was HOOKED by the fact that I could be exactly who I am (nerdiness, jokes and all) and still attract clients that appreciate and need that from a finance professional!

What should our readers know about your business?
Madison Dearly Bookkeeping is a bookkeeping agency for brand + website designers! Our unique value in the online business space is that we make financial reports make sense for each individual business owner, instead of creating boring and stuffy Profit & Loss reports that no one understands! We want our financial reports to be essential tools to making big changes in our clients’ businesses.
One of the best things about having been in business for almost two years is that we’ve tried working with several different business owners and found that we serve brand + website designers the best! We understand their business model, their operations structure and the types of expenses they have. We’ve systemized the process, and make working with us a seamless and enjoyable experience!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My family and I just moved to Minnesota, so this question makes me miss Houston! We used to live in the Valley Ranch area near New Caney, and we used to frequent the breakfast taco place in Porter called Freddy’s Taco Shack. It looks super unassuming from the outside, but MY GOODNESS – my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
We also used to live in the Rice Village area and would frequent Sixty Vines for date night. The Chocolate Bar was always a fun spot to drop in to after window shopping in the area, and they have the best hot chocolate! (My favorite annual tradition was going to the Houston Ballet’s Nutcracker and getting hot chocolate at The Chocolate Bar after the show!)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are two powerhouse women that have gotten me to where I am now!
Katie Ferro, from Orderly Accounting by Katie, was my bookkeeper coach when I first opened my LLC and really started my business. She was patient, encouraging, and practical with all of her guidance. She taught me how to structure my business, how to conduct a great sales call, how to find more clients, and how to structure my business around my life!
The second is Amanda Christine from the Society of Women Business Owners (SOWBO). She has been the best business coach for my business over the past nine months. She has allowed me to ask a million questions, vent when I need to, and has celebrated all of my wins alongside me throughout this year! The community she has created is an incredible group of women who genuinely enjoy supporting each other. I lean on them all the time for advice and even hiring some of them for my business!
