We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie Judge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggie, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
“Be the person that when anyone is around you, they feel they are the best version of themselves.” Some people are left to abandon their originality due to the pressures of conformity. And in no greater situation do we see this dynamic, than with a “manager” and “employee”. This stifles creativity and ingenuity. By allowing people to feel genuinely safe and appreciated while in your presence, you empower them to be the best version of themselves! Building your career with a company who fights for your individuality and embraces your weirdness; that separates you from all the rest, is the powerful work culture we encourage at Sequoia. As a leader, this isn’t always easy to do. It requires you to heal your wounds while continuously working on your own mental, professional, and spiritual development. Only then can you use positive reinforcement from a place of authenticity and inspire those around you!Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Oh gosh! There is not enough time to explain all that I have overcome! Growing up where I did, school wasn’t a main priority. I dropped out of high school my senior year (after being sexually assaulted by a fellow student) and it was no big deal to those around me. But I knew I wanted more. I needed more. I did get my GED and then enrolled in college. I was the first person on both of my family, cousins, aunts, uncles, to go to college. I married young and had kids with a man who was abusive, but I persisted. My 4th daughter was born 5 days before my last semester of nursing school started. I was back at school when she was 2 weeks old. My teachers were so afraid I was going to fail boards that they charged me of plagiarism twice! Both times I sat for the academic board and proved my innocence. I won. Then I passed state nursing boards with a perfect score. The day I found out, I left my now ex husband. That was almost 7 years ago. Since then, I have spent every moment healing past traumas, and letting the woman of honor that lives inside of me, come alive. It has not been and easy journey, but every minute of the fight was worth it to end up where I am now, spiritually, mentally, and professionally. Never stop fighting. Your soul deserves to shine.Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
WOW!! This is hard!!! I would want to go everywhere!!! First, Rudyard’s for the best Pastrami sandwich in all of the world made by the one and only Anthony Calleo!!! Then to this little arcade in Spring. It has 100’s of old arcade games and it is BYOB and just $10 to get in! Stock up on some great brews from True Anomaly, say hi to Michael Duckworth- that is a must!- and you have got yourself one great night!!! And and absolute MUST is to see anyone live at Anderson Fair. It is a Houston land mark and is one of my favorite to places to visit. Just imagine seeing Townes Van Zandt play that little stage!!!!!Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, everyone I have ever met. People and situations are placed in our lives to help us learn lessons. Those who have wronged me, I thank you. Those who have stood by my side through thick and thin, I tell you everyday how grateful I am for your love. Those who were passing through to show me who I don’t want to be and who I can be, thank you. For all of you have helped mold me into who I am today, and I have to say, I like her! But the biggest shout outs go to my four amazing daughters. Everyday I strive to make a better life for us. And to the INCREDIBLE Sequoia Team. Never have I worked with such a supportive, genuine team. We really are in this for our patient’s and shows in everything you do. We have so many reasons to be proud! We are changing the quality of lives for our patients!
