We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie Noel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I originally started MPressive Faces, it was just something I wanted to do for fun. I always had a passion and interest in beauty and cosmetics, but because my background was golf, I figured my whole life would be centered around it never thought I would completely change careers like I did. I figured I could take a few clients here and there, perhaps even just carter to close friends and family. Well, their close friends and family told their close friends and family and it just snowballed into what it is today. So when I am asked how I chose to get into Microblading and Permanent Makeup, I often laugh and say “We’ll, I really think it chose me.”
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting a business from the ground up and from what was originally just supposed to be a mere hobby was not easy at all. It was almost kind of forced to say the least. I did not see it taking of the way it did. AT ALL. I had to basically figure it out as it all happened. From taking phone calls, to booking appointments, to answering emails, to handling my golf and now microblading schedule. It was not something that took time to happen. It came and it came fast. Did I fumble a few times and drop the ball? Absolutely. But I took those lessons and learned really quickly, well, because I had no choice to. I often tell people, although it was not easy and still to this day, a learning experience, I still find joy in watching this “little hobby” flourish the way it has and still is. The fact that people travel from across the world just to spend a few hours with us to create our art for them is always so heart-warming. What we do is life changing. From the clients who lost their brows due to cancer, alopecia, or any other life altering events to clients who simply just want to make their lives easier, we cater to them all and it is always exciting to see their expressions when they have their dream brows.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First thing first, we would probably go to Soul Taco and Throughgood Coffee in the Heights. It’s our favorite Taco truck and the coffee shop has the best Chai Tea Lattes and Blueberry donuts. Some shopping at the Galleria Mall is sure to make the to-do=list. For lunch, we would most certainly grab a Summer Salad at Tiny Boxwoods. With salmon of course. We’re both suckers for outdoors, so a little day trip to Galveston for a little fishing is sure to happen. Perhaps a little golf and run at the newly renovated Memorial Park would certainly be on the itinerary as well. Dinner plans? For sure. If it’s crawfish season, find us BB’s on White Oak. Otherwise, you will more than likely find us at Coltivare in the Heights.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I don’t think we would be who we are today if it was not for our fantastic team. Our Office Manager, Cindy, not only greets our clients and books the majority of our appointments, but she also makes sure the office is operating smoothly on a daily basis. I often joke but I mean it sincerely when I say Cindy is definitely the boss of me and makes sure I am in check everyday. Our team of amazing and talented artists make up the soul of MPressive Faces. Chris Le has been a part of our team for nearly four years and has flourished not only as an artist but also as a young man. Ana Estrada has been with us for nearly 3 years and has so much talent and a keen eye for perfection. Sara Barz has been with us for almost 2 years and continues to shine and master her craft. Not to mention all of our artists were all products of our training program as we only hire past students when we do hire. We are a definitely not just coworkers and artists but a really close nit family of awesome individuals.
