Hi Malika, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor to the success of my business is God. It is recorded many times on the mind blowing favors we receive as Children of God. I believe the increase Mel’s Wigs and Co will receive is not just for my personal gain; but for me to bless others. To be a true blessing, we have partnered with local hospitals to provide custom made wigs to cancer patients at no cost to them. With the help of God and my desire to help people, we’re fulfilling the vision: Make everyone feel beautiful.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Outside of being an entrepreneur, I am a financial expert in the world of Ultra High Net-Worth individuals. I started my career in Finance at the age of 19 in corporate banking. Over the years, I developed my expertise in both accounting and finance. From a very young age, I always had an ease and interest in mathematics making my career a smooth sail. Currently, I serve as the African American Excellence leader at my firm where I spearhead the implementation of Financial Literacy in local Houston schools. A word of advice that I can give is: everyone’s pathway is unique. It is all apart of your journey and growth. Trust the process, it will work for your good.
I want the world to know: Mel’s Wigs and Co is more than a brand; it’s a representation of God’s love. I am a passionate vessel determined to make a change in each person’s life through light and love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my family for giving me the creative space to start making wigs at 15. My mom and Aunt Alecia were my biggest supporters from the very beginning: allowing themselves to be my models even when the wigs did not come out the best. A special shout-out to my bonus dad on his unwavering support and wanting to build my first hair studio at 15! I want to thank my dad and bonus mom for constantly encouraging me that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. Through their encouragement to chase my dreams in business; they have instilled the work ethic in me to be the best, knowledgeable, and business savvy entrepreneur!
