Meet Margie Sanford | Gluten-free Craft Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Margie Sanford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Margie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk is an inherent part of any entrepreneurial journey, and I’ve always viewed it as an opportunity for growth and creativity. Taking on this journey has been nerve-racking, it is likely the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. Embracing risk in creating products that carry significant negative stigma has allowed me to explore new baking approaches and push boundaries in gluten-free baking. The rewards of seeing satisfied customers and the joy of contributing positively to their lives have made every risk worthwhile.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a Gluten-free Craft Baker, my work revolves around crafting delicious, safe, and inclusive treats. What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to safe, quality and taste—we ensure that our baked goods rival traditional offerings without compromising on flavor or texture.
I am incredibly proud of the positive feedback we receive from customers who can finally enjoy indulgent treats without worry. The journey to this point wasn’t easy. It involved thousands of hours of experimenting and refining recipes and sometimes days of self-doubt. Overcoming these challenges required perseverance and a deep passion and love for creating something meaningful.
I’ve learned that passion, adaptability and listening to customer feedback are key to success. Margie Mae’d is built on a foundation of providing safe gluten-free products, natural and local ingredients, and a love for baking. We want the world to know that everyone deserves to enjoy delicious treats, regardless of dietary restrictions. Our story is one of dedication and the joy of making a difference in people’s lives through our baked goods.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I envision a food tour of local gems. Starting with a stroll through the farmers markets. This space provides a small window to what Houston offers: vibrant community of people, food prepared by well-known Houston Chefs, local and organic produce, and unique artisanal goods. Besides the farmers market, I’d also take them to some of my favorite local spots like Le Peep, Kenny & Ziggy’s, Taste of Texas, to name a few. Supporting these local businesses not only provides a unique taste of Houston but also fosters a sense of community and sustainability.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe the inspiration for Margie Mae’d to my incredible mother-in-law, Cindy. Going gluten-free is what helped her rid of joint pains. Throughout this journey, I’ve met people who went gluten-free for different reasons, many of them became my friends and loyal Margie Mae’d patrons. Their experience in navigating this challenge with grace and resilience is what motivates me to create a space where everyone can indulge without worry, gluten-free or not. Their undying support and unwavering enthusiasm have been the cornerstone of my journey, and I’m deeply grateful for the inspiration my mother-in-law and my loyal patrons provide every market day.
