We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisa Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marisa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk-taking sounds scary, that’s why it is so hard at first to commit to something new but you definitely won’t regret it. Taking risks comes with many factors, such as self-discipline, consistency, and staying motivated even on the days you’re not feeling it..etc. Also staying accountable for your goals is important, you have to do the work to see results in anything you do, other than that what’s the point of risking valuable time. Life is full is opportunities and the thing about taking a chance is that it can never be harmful or a waste of time. Even if something doesn’t work out in your favor learning a lesson is still progress. Taking risks has played a major part in my life and has changed it in the best way possible this year. Meeting amazing new people, self-teaching new skills, and self-confidence are some things I have gained from it. I took a risk by quitting my job at 21 years old to pour all my attention and energy towards expanding my small business more and becoming my own boss. It’s been a whole year since I took the risk and started creating my own brand and couldn’t be more proud of the progress I’ve made so far. I stayed consistent, learned a lot of lessons, still learning, and put in the work, I wanted different so I had to be different.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own Simply Pawsitive LLC and I make homemade pet treats, pet accessories, pet care products, dog bakery desserts. and CBD treats. My brand is truly about living ‘pawsitively’ with simple homemade and healthy supplies for your furbabies to enjoy knowing what’s actually inside the products. I am very open about the recipes that I create, I want pet parents to know that Simply Pawsitive only uses safe ingredients and do not have to worry about any harmful elements being used ever. I want all our furry family members to also live a long healthy life because they are the sweetest souls on earth and deserve to be spoiled while they’re here. I got the idea to focus on animals because I knew people love their furbabies just like family, and we all know someone who prefers pets over people so why not make sure they stay healthy and happy as well? I know I love my sweet furbabe Sienna and want her to live a long life as she deserves. Most of the biggest animal lovers I’ve met have been at my pop-ups that I do every weekend. I love meeting new people around the areas and when they bring their pups with them to markets it just brightens up my day, probably my favorite part of my job! I started doing pop-ups at small business markets around the Houston area and my hometown to promote my business and get my name out there. It has helped me tremendously with clientele, exposure, new opportunities, and networking with great people. Of course, it was hard at first to find where my real pet lovers are and try out different areas where pets are most appreciated and the ones who actually love to spoil them. It’s still challenging to this day because it can always be a hit or miss on some weekends but I get to explore new areas which is still a plus. I have the advantage of being one of a few people who offer what I make in my area so I consider it different than other businesses. What I love about my brand is that there is always something for your animals, if your pet doesn’t like to wear bandanas or bow-ties, treats are always the best choice.
I am most excited for the new ideas I have on expanding my business in innovative ways and cannot wait for it to come to life. I want people to know that Simply Pawsitive is meant to pawsitively impact furbabies life, whether it’s healthy treats or for a fashion statement!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend coming into town, I would definitely take them to the Houston area! There is so much to do down there, I would definitely take them to eat sushi, take them to the butterfly museum. Hoping they like some sweets, take them to Sweet Parie for delicious crepes, and take them to local small business markets. I truly love introducing people to small businesses that are around the area and go for a walk at a dog park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shout-out to my family, my parents, and my brothers for pushing me and making me tough for this adult life. They have always been so supportive of the goals and plans that I have for my business, giving me tips, ideas, critiques, and hearing their different perspectives. I honestly wouldn’t have gotten this far without them encouraging me to keep grinding and to be different and not give up on my goals. I can’t wait for the day my small business becomes bigger and I get to give back to those who have given their own time to help me at pop-ups, bagging treats, or even just kept me company while working. I’m thankful to my parents, for helping me become more responsible and being such an amazing support system. I’m blessed I get to do this full-time because they believe in me and see it’s going somewhere with plans I have.
