We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisol Godoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marisol, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
A neighbor place where everyone is welcome and can find amazing service, quality food and cozy setting.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own two restaurants, Mastrantos in the Heights and Weights + Measures. Mastrantos is the concept we built from scratch, our “fourth baby”as we call it, and Weights + Measures, the place we acquired, nurtured, and brought back to life. Both hold pieces of our identity, our story, and our heart.

After spending years in the corporate world and welcoming our last child, my husband and I reached a moment where we felt called to build something of our own. Something that reflected who we are, what we believe in. We didn’t just want a business, we wanted a place where kindness, intention, and good food could bring people together.

These last 10 years have been incredible, but also incredibly hard. People see the pretty side, the events, the food, the celebrations and yes, sometimes us drinking wine in the patio our of businesses, but behind it there have been tears, disagreements, late nights, financial pressure, and moments where we questioned ourselves. People have questioned us too, challenged our decisions, and pushed us in ways we didn’t always expect. But despite all of that, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that when you do things with real intention, when you pour your whole heart into something, it will always find its path to success, even if success looks different than you originally imagined, which tends to happens often. I’ve also learned the importance of kindness and gratitude. We are nothing without the people who wake up every day to fight with us, to represent our brand, to serve our guests with love. Our team is the reason we’re still standing.

Mastrantos has been open for seven beautiful years, and it continues to shine because of the people behind it and the community that embraces it and supports it.

What I want the world to know about our story is simple: We built this with the heart.
We survived because of intention, humility, and grit and above all we stay together.

And we continue because we truly believe and love what we do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Houston for a week, I would make sure she experienced the city the way we enjoy it, through good food, great coffee, and all the little gems that make this place feel like home.

We’d start the day with coffee at New Heights Coffee or Catalina Coffee, two of my favorite spots with that perfect Houston neighborhood feeling. From there, we’d head to weights and Measures for Lunch and then get the train to the Museum District, one of the most beautiful areas in the city. We’d walk through the museums, explore the parks, and take our time soaking it all in.

And of course, we would end the day with dinner at Mastrantos, because nothing feels more special than sharing a meal in a place that holds so much of our heart and story.

Throughout the week, we’d explore some of Houston’s amazing local shops and hidden gems, there is always something new to discover in this city, and that’s what makes showing it off so much

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would give a huge shoutout to my mom. She raised me with everything she had and taught me to how to believe in myself, work hard, and fight for what I want through her actions. Her strength and resilience have shaped the woman I am today, and so much of my journey begins with her.

I also want to recognize my husband, Xavier, who has been my partner, calming my storms, challenging me to grow, and standing beside me through every chapter of our lives.

And lastly, my three kids, who are indeed my biggest motivation. They remind me every day why I push forward, dream bigger, and live with love and intention. They inspire me to be better, not just for them, but because of them.

I truly wouldn’t be where I am without each of them.
