We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marissa, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My passion to create has been the key factor to the success of my business. Developing relationships with my clients, getting to know them, and building the trust to know they are in good hands every time they are in my chair are all very important. My goal is not working FOR them but WITH them as a dream team to execute their visions. Their stories inspire me every day, and I am passionate about using my diverse makeup skills to creatively complement their individuality. I am blessed to be able to make women look and feel their best doing what I love. It truly is a dream come true!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is the diversity of makeup looks. I am always up for trying something new or challenging myself to do something different. One session I’m executing a glam makeup look, and the next its a full costume! It invigorates me to discuss an idea or image with a client and be able to execute that with makeup/hair. Since I was a kid I’ve always had a love for makeup. One door opened and I took the chance not knowing exactly where it was going to go. For 13 years I worked in the medical field in management, insurance and billing, so I have always maintained a stable job. As a single mom of two, I had alot of uncertainty on giving up my job security. But the opportunities continued to fall in my lap and I decided to take the leap of faith. Its taken hard work and dedication but I am so thankful to be where I am right now. There are still things I want to accomplish before I’m exactly where I want to be in my career, but in the meantime, I’m enjoying the growing process and living my dream. I want the world to know that the old saying is true- “if you do something you love, you never work a day in your life”.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is such a diverse city, especially in terms of the food! I recently have come across a new favorite place called Common Bond located in The Woodlands where the Lavender Chai Latte and Turtle Cake Brownie are not to be missed. They are absolutely delicious! I would probably take them down to the waterwall or Graffiti Park. An absolute must would be to head to galleria to window shop to get inspired and definitely do some shopping! We would end our day with a great stroll through downtown with different music coming out of different places and catching a Bareknuckle cocktail from The Handle Bar off of Washington Ave. The possibilities of a great time are endless!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have honestly appreciated everyone, so to pinpoint a single person or person(s) is impossible! Somehow and somewhere along the way each person I’ve collaborated or worked with has played their own role in my evolving story. Therefore, I have to dedicate this shoutout to every single one of them, including my kids and family. The amount of support, love and inspiration has been incredible, and I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am without them.
