We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Scheetz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In August of 2021, I decided to resign from a really nice company with great people (and benefits) to put more time into my own creative pursuits. The company was a web and app development company, but I just felt the pull to get back to my graphic design roots and wanted to expand on podcasting and my filmmaking goals.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I started my career in graphic design in 1998. As you know, a lot of things have changed over the years with technology, computers, the internet, etc. As things changed, I had to adapt. I learned HTML, CSS, SASS, WordPress, and whatever else was required to continue to broaden my knowledge and what I could offer to clients and businesses. This also led me to filmmaking. I started with my friends on mini DV and edited in iMovie, and now we use 4K cameras and Adobe Premiere Pro. Basically, as technology changes, so does my creativity and what I can create, which is amazing.

To add to that, I decided to start podcasting, and that has led to our show, Paranormal Punchers. It’s a comedy show all about ghosts, bigfoot, or anything paranormal. With this show, we have done a few live performances, created video specials, and it even inspired me to write two comic books based on the show.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Funk Brewing, Elizabethtown, PA – Great food, PA craft beers, wonderful people. Gettysburg, PA – Great pubs to hit all within walking distance. Tons of history to explore, and if you are like us, haunted locations to explore.
Crossroads Antique Mall, Hershey, PA – interesting items from the past and great record finds.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I’ve been podcasting since 2015 and was a big fan of a podcast called, Trick or Treat Radio. Their support and “just go for it” attitude helped me get the courage to put myself out there, and I started a show talking about movies. And like a dream come true, at a Scare-a-Con event in Massachusetts, I got to sit down behind the mic with Trick or Treat Radio during a live recording they were doing. Now I do a show called Paranormal Punchers that I started in 2017, and I hope to inspire other people to get up and podcast.

I also have to thank Jon Norman, co-owner of Funk Brewing, for believing in me and my creativity and letting me design their beer labels. It’s so much fun, and they always have some wild ideas that I love bringing to life.
