Meet Mark Thomas | Left My Mark

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mark, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was I started as a graphic designer in college and I had my own clothing line and all my friends always seen how good my designs and drawings were. They then suggested i started doing tattoos because I could draw so well and I agreed.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve been blessed enough in my craft to have the opportunity to tattoo multiple celebrities which is not really the norm for black tattoo artist especially ones from Chicago. I also work at one of the best tattoo shops in the world called 9mag tattoo. A lot of practice and dedication got me to where I’m at today as an artist and it was not easy. I learned from YouTube and trial and error and had to learn as I go. I’ve learn you have to consistently study and promote if you want to make it as an entrepreneur you can’t slow down. I want the world to know I had to overcome adversity to get to where I’m at and nobody gave me any handouts I had to get up and get it myself.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would suggest we eat at Italian fiesta and Harold’s. We can get drinks and food at Bar Louie. As far as going out we can visit some rooftops downtown and go to Hubbard inn and joy district for hang out spots.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I was inspired by Ryan Henry also being a black tattoo artist from the east side of Chicago and helped my motivation in wanted to grow as a tattoo artist.
