We had the good fortune of connecting with MARKEITA PRUITT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MARKEITA, how do you think about risk?
I would assume I have the normal reaction to risk as the next person. But, I’m grateful for a faith level that doesn’t allow me to be discouraged, nor disabled by it. My level of faith is progressing constantly. And with each challenge, I am forced to level up my faith. So, the idea of risk causes me to shift perspectives and see it as an opportunity to overcome, versus being automatically defeated. By the grace of God, the risks have paid off. Each risk moved me closer, deeper into purpose. So, risks are necessary!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a hairstylist by trade and a creative entrepreneur at heart. Creating is my super power. So, I have a beauty brand – Touch of Heaven Artistry- which is a mini salon suite that provides not only beautifully crafted natural and healthy hair styles, but also a safe space for women to come relax, rejuvenate, rest and recharge. I consider my suite to be a safe space from the stressor of the world, even if for the duration they’re with me, they can escape. Then secondly, I own and operate a salon park – The Suite Life Salons – which houses some of Humble’s talented beauty professionals. The purpose behind launching the salon Park was to equip individuals with the knowledge and resources needed for becoming their own boss. In the world of cosmetology, we’re often trained to be stylists, but never taught the operations of management and ownership. So, I wanted to fill that void. And from this concept, we have recently inked a deal to expand by opening – The Suite Life Luxury Suites – same concept as the salon, but will be all inclusive by offering suites to other industry professionals, providing spaces for individuals to operate as their own entity and boss. It’s set to open Mid May. Anyone who knows me, knows that service is my goal. To be of service and pour into others as best I can with the resources and knowledge God has equipped me with and continues to bestow upon me. So, prayerfully with each expansion, we’ll be met with greater opportunities to continue that vision.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a foodie! So, I’d take them to some of my favorite spots in town like The Funnel Bar, State Fare, Twisted Grilled Cheese, Lucille’s, Breakfast Klub, and/or order a cake from my favorite Jess Bundts. Being that my life is so demanding, my social life is a bit laid back. So, we’d maybe find a park or lake to hang out, go hike or walking to catch up and then visit a winery or something like Water’s Edge or Trez. I’d also consider an art museum or something – maybe Bisong or Buffalo Soldiers.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been blessed with countless individuals who have been my forever cheerleaders and support system – number one being my husband. Then there’s my oldest brother who is my forever sounding board for ideas and dreams. Also, I have a small circle of AMAZING women who encourage, support, and provide safe spaces to vocalize my disappointments, fears, dreams and aspirations WITHOUT JUDGMENT – they are the true MVPs. And lastly, those who patronize my business, who contribute through word of mouth and recommendations, and have been loyal to my brands throughout the ages – I’m indebted to them and only hope I, for years to come, can continue to provide and fulfill their needs.
