We had the good fortune of connecting with Mecca Meschèt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mecca, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important detail that contributes to the success of any business is customer relationship. As a new business owner in the process of building my brand, it is imperative that I listen to my customers and have that transparent relationship so that I am not only a brand, but my personality and character shine through so that i am seen as a creative that can be trusted. Like, you’d wanna hang out with me, support my business, and be so proud to represent my business brand that you tell all your friends. I also want to have a defined purpose so people know what my brand represents outside of the artistic world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I’m still building my brand, I just rebranded my singer/songwriter/poet platform, and it feels refreshing to get that face lift. I have been writing music, learning more on the piano and I just purchased a guitar, so excited is an understatement for me. I also just became an official radio show host. Brown Sugar Xpress airs live every Saturday 10am to noon. And if you miss the live, the rebroadcast airs on Thursdays 4pm-6pm. To listen just download the High Volume Music Radio app and you’re good! It’s been quite a journey because I still work as an accountant by day so I have to balance my work and life pretty steadily. That’s the part that makes it difficult because sometimes I just want to focus on writing poetry all day or get that song idea out on the piano, but reality is I still need my 9-5 to sustain myself and my home. It’s not a complaint because I like what I do as an accountant, but my passion is in the arts so my heart will always live there. Time management is crucial for me. Making the time to do what I love after a long day at work is where I find my joy. I’m also working on my Doctorate so that brings an added challenge. My mom always says I have a “G” on my back, I just keep going and going and adding more to my plate. I say hey, I’m always hungry so it works for me.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Oh my goodness this question took me back to the days of The Skybar. Those from Houston should know. Whenever my cousins would visit from Dallas that would be the hangout spot. But it’s no longer open So these days maybe Grooves would be the club spot on Friday nights. There are too many poetry spots to mention and because of COVID-19 I’m not 100% sure what’s open now anyway, but there have been quite a few virtual performances on Instagram and Facebook. I love The Breakfast Klub, their wings and waffles and katfish are delicious, so we’d have to go there for breakfast. Maybe The Galleria for some window shopping and Baybrook Mall for actual shopping. Lol. Maybe take in a movie at Star Cinema Grill where you can order food from your seat, then we’d have to get crab legs from Krab Kingz…omg they’re so good. Pappadeaux is also a great spot for food and drinks and Grand Luxe Cafe is a great brunch spot with delicious cheesecakes of all flavors. You notice I’m talking a lot about food, huh? Well I can’t forget Sunshine’s Vegetarian Deli…even if you’re not vegan you’ll love that restaurant, I promise. Last but not least, we can’t miss taking a drive down to Kemah for carnival rides on the water or Galveston for a beach getaway.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have the best support system in my circle of friends. My mom is my biggest supporter, along with my son and my brother. My son helps out and shows his support by being an usher at my annual concerts and helps sell merchandise. My brother offers his talents on the same concert stage platform and we always have a blast performing together. I have friends that come from near and far, out of town and out of state, to support my annual live concerts and birthday celebrations, and I’m just so very thankful.
