Meet Megan Rich | Wife, Mom to 5, Crochet Artist, Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a proud Ravenclaw!

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Rich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Everything I do is centered around sharing joy through the love of making something for others. It’s a beautiful ways to serve others, let them know you see and love them, and connect with people. I started crocheting to be able to make gifts that brightened the faces of my children. First, it was making them items that they asked for and then it evolved to finding their passions and making them a surprise gift specific to them. As my business has grown, I’ve wanted that same joy to extend to others through personal commissions, teaching beginner crochet classes, gifting baby booties to new babies in my area, and creating helpful digital crochet patterns to equip any beginner to crochet something special for their loved ones. If what I’m creating doesn’t bring joy to others, I simply won’t do it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This all began from a simple desire to learn how to crochet. I was actually taught as an adult by a young man doing an Eagle Scout project. He taught the basic skills during weekly lessons and then gave us projects to do that would then be donated to a local hospital for kids in need of cuddle buddies. That inspired me moving forward. I wanted the time and love I put into my projects to carry over to the person receiving them – for them to feel the joy I felt making it for them. I started consuming tutorials and patterns to educate myself and build my skills. Then when I was ready, I created my own pattern and put it out into the world for sale. To date, it was the hardest task I’ve ever had to tackle concerning my business. I had to have faith in my skills, work, and creative design. Thankfully, my hard was rewarded and many people liked what I created, too. I have carried that success with me in every new project I get excited to take on. I have learned to trust myself because, as long as what I create brings joy, then it is worth doing. I’m also not afraid to be myself as I share my crochet journey with others. I feel that this is what people feel from me and that what draws them to me. I love taking the things you love and making them into something special you will love, too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Any friends or family that visit me have to go to 2 places: The Wind Caves up Logan Canyon for outdoor adventures and The Book Table in downtown Logan. The journey to the Wind Caves is a moderate 4-mile hike there and back and you get an amazing view from inside an open, echoing cave. The Book Table is a book-lovers’s dream with tons of unique reads and knick-knacks that you can happily spend hours in just browsing. Lastly, I do have to shout out to the no-light pollution area in Northern Utah that I live. Star-gazing at night has been one of the most peaceful and beautiful things I’m blessed to experience every day from just my backyard.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so grateful for my family in believing in me and supporting me. I try to involve them as much as possible because, after all, I do all this to support them and their dreams. They love going for trips to the craft store and helping me pick out items for my next project. They are just as excited as I am when I’m working on something and seeing it grow into reality. They inspire and challenge me to try and create new things. When I make a sale and my phone dings, we all cheer together. Their faith in me and joy they have in the work I’ve been doing is humbling and fuels me to keep going. My oldest thinks I can even crochet metal together. I don’t need to lack in confidence when I have support like that on my side.
