We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I didn’t intentionally set out to start a business. It evolved naturally from who I already was.
Right out of college, I became a caregiver. I’ve always known helping people was my calling, but I didn’t yet know what that would look like long term. I’m naturally creative and self-motivated — I’ve always been someone who takes initiative, over-delivers, and doesn’t need supervision. Even though I was shy, people consistently placed me in leadership roles throughout my life. It actually terrified me at the time — they saw qualities in me long before I fully saw them in myself.
At the same time, I was deeply interested in natural remedies, herbalism, and holistic health. In 2017, I wanted to purchase black seed oil capsules online but couldn’t find a vegan capsule option. I was already making herbal capsules for myself in my bedroom, so I decided to create my own version.
I shared what I was making with friends and family, and the demand happened organically. People began asking to buy what I was creating. What started as personal experimentation turned into selling herbs, handmade natural lotions, deodorants, lip balms, and more. At first, it felt fun and intuitive — I wasn’t thinking like a business owner yet.
As my interest deepened, I pursued formal education in herbalism, health coaching, and holistic nutrition because it already aligned so closely with my lifestyle and values. In the world of alternative medicine, there isn’t always a traditional career path — so building my own business became the natural next step.
For me, entrepreneurship wasn’t a strategic plan. It was a calling that slowly turned into a business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business has evolved alongside me.
What began as experimenting with herbal capsules in my bedroom has grown into a holistic health practice rooted in nervous system regulation, whole foods, ancestral wisdom, and practical daily wellness. My background in caregiving deeply shaped how I approach health — I don’t see people as trends or protocols. I see them as whole humans with real lives, stress, responsibilities, and stories.
What sets me apart is that I bridge two worlds: hands-on clinical caregiving experience and formal holistic education. I’ve worked intimately with elderly clients in their most vulnerable seasons of life, preparing their meals, supporting their health, and observing firsthand how lifestyle impacts longevity. That lived experience informs everything I teach. My work isn’t theoretical — it’s grounded in reality.
I’m most proud of the fact that my business has been built organically. No shortcuts. No overnight success. Just consistency, curiosity, and courage. I didn’t come from a business background, and I had to learn everything — marketing, branding, product development, boundaries, confidence — through trial, error, and growth.
It hasn’t been easy. There were seasons of doubt, financial uncertainty, and outgrowing versions of myself. Transitioning from private caregiving/cooking for clients — something stable and familiar — into fully building my holistic health coaching business has required risk and deep self-trust. I’ve had to overcome perfectionism, fear of visibility, and the discomfort of being seen.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that alignment matters more than speed. When something is rooted in purpose, it may take time, but it builds depth. I’ve also learned that resilience is built in private. The growth people see publicly is often the result of quiet persistence behind the scenes.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is this: I’m not here to push extremes, trends, or fear-based narratives around health. I care about sustainability. I care about nervous system regulation. I care about helping people return to simplicity in a world that constantly overcomplicates wellness.
To me, taking a natural or holistic approach to health does not mean rejecting conventional medicine. It means honoring the body and forming a relationship with it — learning to listen to its signals, respecting its intelligence, and making informed decisions that feel aligned. There is room for both modern medicine and natural practices. It’s not either/or — it’s about integration.
Health doesn’t require extreme protocols or drastic overhauls. More often, it begins with a shift in belief. With slowing down. With nourishment. With small, consistent daily practices. Healing truly happens from the inside out — not the outside in.
At its core, my work is about helping people feel safe, regulated, and confident in their bodies again. When you feel safe in your body, you make better choices. And that’s where vibrant, lasting health begins.
And this is only the beginning.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Houston for the first time, we’d make it a perfect mix of food, nature, and a little Texas charm.
We’d start with dinner at Aga’s Restaurant & Catering — hands down some of the best Pakistani food in the country. The flavor, the hospitality, the portion sizes — it feels Michelin-level without the Michelin price tag. It’s one of those places where every dish feels intentional, and you leave already planning your next visit.
One day would absolutely be dedicated to a quick getaway to Galveston. We’d walk along the Seawall, spend time on the beach, and explore the charming historic downtown filled with unique boutiques and cozy coffee shops. There’s something grounding about being near the water — it’s the perfect reset from city energy.
Back in Houston, we’d spend a morning wandering through Hermann Park. It’s one of my favorite green spaces in the city — you can take long nature walks, visit the gardens, and just slow down. While we’re there, we’d probably pop into the Houston Museum of Natural Science — it’s one of those places that makes you feel like a curious kid again.
And of course, you can’t visit Texas without proper barbecue. We’d end the weekend at Pinkerton’s Barbecue for some of the best brisket in the city. It’s bold, classic, and unapologetically Texas.
For me, Houston is special because it’s diverse, flavorful, and full of hidden gems. You can experience global cuisine, coastal calm, green space, and Southern comfort all in one weekend — and that mix of culture and character is what makes it exciting.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first dedicate my shoutout to my parents. They have supported my many endeavors over the years — even the ones that didn’t unfold as planned. They never discouraged my curiosity or creativity, even when my path looked unconventional. Having that kind of steady belief behind you is something I don’t take for granted.
I also want to recognize my friends and family who supported me in the early days, when I was simply experimenting and sharing what I was making. Before there was a “business,” there were people willing to try my herbal capsules, natural body products, and ideas. That early encouragement meant everything.
I’m incredibly grateful for the online wellness community — the educators, creators, and everyday people who fearlessly shared their stories and stood confidently in natural and holistic healing, even when it wasn’t widely accepted or understood. Their courage helped normalize a path that once felt unconventional.
I also want to thank Dr. Lori Rose at Hill College for dedicating her life to creating the Holistic Wellness Pathway. Having the opportunity to pursue formal education in holistic health at an accredited college was pivotal for me. It validated what I already felt called toward and gave me a strong, credible foundation.
And finally, my husband deserves immense credit. As I transition from caregiving into fully building my health business, he has been my steady support through uncertain and rocky waters. Entrepreneurship requires risk, vulnerability, and belief — and he has offered all three without hesitation. Having a partner who encourages you to go all in on yourself is something I deeply value.
None of us build anything alone. Every chapter of my journey has been shaped by people who believed in me — sometimes before I fully believed in myself.
