Meet Mehwish S. | Candle Maker at Naba & Co. Candles

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mehwish S. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mehwish, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well I am a mommy of 3 & have been a nomad for most of my life. My priorities were my family & home always & I knew I had to do something that went hand in hand. Your own business gives you that flexibility of choosing how much of what you want to do at a certain time, rather than being expected to have it done. I take my business very seriously & have various plans to expand & grow but I would take my time & choose my pace according to how much time & effort I am able to give it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Naba & Co. Candles are faith based candles. Our belief is that we are what we surround ourselves with. Our words, values, beliefs & ultimately actions, define who we are. We want to provide candles that are created with right intentions, say the words that either define our beliefs, values, culture or affirmations & are serving the purpose of betterment to the user or as we call them “candle lovers”.
We are proud of being one of a kind in our industry by introducing candles named after Islamic personalities & those named specifically for Islamic events like Ramadan & Eid. We use natural ingredients in the making & are totally trying to reduce the use of plastic & other toxic materials. We also use reusable containers & natural wooden wicks!
Nothing in life is served. It was our first time starting a business & that too all by ourselves, my husband & I. We have 3 kids, my husband is an RN by profession & I am a homeschooler mommy. Life requires quite much from us at this point. We have learnt a lot of new things & there is so much more to learn as we just moved into our 2nd year in business, AH! God has been very kind to us by giving us an opportunity to create a difference in peoples lives not just by spreading candle light lol, but also by creating an awareness of using this candle lit energy to direct their inner thoughts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I believe that a person can either be pulled down or be raised up high because of the people that surround him.
My father has always been my cheer leader! He would emphasize on the little creative person he saw in me, as a child & would give it big names & call me fashion designer, artist, Lata (a famous Indian singer), Barbie doll, manager of an advertising company (where I worked as an internee), etc. He would appreciate & say such good things about all the characteristics that it kind of even made me expect a lot from myself. Truly believe in the power of words! A lot of those praises have worked in my favor 😉
I am also a lucky woman to have found an encouraging & supportive partner. He has tried to give me all means to support what I love. He is a big hand & mind behind the success of Naba & Co. Candles!
