We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody Fraser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melody, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to open Blissful waters I knew I loved float therapy. I was traveling to Austin quite regularly for weekend “time outs” . I was beginning to really feel the value it was bringing to my life. Houston had a few float centers, I floated at all of them . The drive home north was leaving me in need of another float when I made it back to my zip code. “I said every zip code needs their own float center ” to my husband. We were going through yet another lay off season in oil and gas. He looked at me and said would you like to start a business? Absolutely! It didn’t take any thinking on what type of business. I knew how floating helped me with daily anxiety, and finding that inward peace. The other side effects were more creativity, my senses were heightened, and a better outlook on life was all extra . I was focused on how to bring a float center to my community and the journey began.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are Blissful Waters Float Center. Specializing in true sensory deprivation. No sound, no lights, no pressure on the muscles or joints, or touch to the skin. The atmosphere is quiet yet happy. We offer a space in the post float lounge to reset and connect with yourself post your float. Our float rooms are nice and accommodating larger built clients and those who have fear of tight spaces. The entire Blissful space is open and roomy. Not busy with “stuff” we want an environment to allow the right side of the brain to come out and play. Starting a business is not easy , we all start out thinking it will be. However I feel those challenges in the beginning help mold you and bring out your fighter stance. Our challenges were finding trustworthy contractors, and knowing what to and what not to invest in. Many businesses make the mistake of trying to be “perfect” you will never find perfection. You are always tweaking and fixing a problem. Our challenges in the start prepared me for 2020. I learned to trust the unknown. Put in the work, keep moving forward and eventually your pay out will arrive. I remember Spring Break 2020- we were booking 3-4 weeks ahead. Our hard work of educating the public on what is “float therapy” was building a regular clientele. We were ready to invest in and bring in a third float room to Blissful waters float center. The pandemic hit, we lost a lot of clientele. It was as if we were starting over. I did not panic. The challenges encountered at the start showed me to never give up and keep pushing forward . Today we are adding the third float room to our two float room center. This is still a Superior float tank with the best sanitization system out there (ozone gas and UVC) but it also has fiber optics on the ceiling . Stars on the ceiling. Our current float tanks have soft light and music. The new room offering starry lights will not only be cool but will help clients move into pure sensory deprivation. Float therapy with the lights out. It can take more than one float to move from easy music and lowlights to pure silence and darkness. Your brain loves when it has a chance to reboot and will show by giving you more focus, creativity and inner joy. I wanted a space for people to go and not be required to make a decision. We do the thinking for you . so even if you are mentally good, you walk, you practice meditation its nice to have a place where you can shut off. We provide everything from vegan soaps and conditioners, a vanity area with hair products and hairstyling equipment. The post float lounge area is for you to reset after your float. We provide warm tea and other beverages . Our clientele consists of entrepreneurs , teachers, busy moms and dads, business executives, to athletes looking to enhance performance and muscle recovery. We sanitize each space after the client and put no responsibility on that for the client except arrive healthy and ready to unplug.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Making memories would be my goal. I take everyone to The Texas Tree Adventures.  There is a big jump at the end. “Take the leap of faith”. Then there is Riva Row where we rent a paddle board or kayak, always a good time. Restaurants I like to show to my friends are craft grill, and The Republic Grill.   I would also take them to visit the many farmers markets in the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We could not have moved forward with Texas Citizen bank of clear lake agreeing to helping us acquire a second SBA loan. We encountered lots of hardships and lost our entire first loan to a dodgy contractor, then our second contractor passed away, lost more funds, knocked on a lot of bank doors but only Texas Citizen Bank gave us the go ahead. We will forever be grateful , now with the pandemic continually giving support. I would also like to give a shout out to Thyra Clagg and her group Woodlands girls night out. This is a female networking group in The Woodlands . Our float center is surviving Covid times much to this group’s help. Woodland girls night out is a group of women supporting each other in the good times and bad. When the pandemic hit our group focused on supporting locals. I absolutely love these ladies and all their support. I grew to know many members a year before we opened they helped me gain clients and pointed me to trustworthy businesses . Trust is hard in the business world. Everyone wants a piece of your wallet . Woodlands girls night out helped me find trustworthy individuals to help me and Blissful Waters Float Center prosper.
